@ValentineMommy: It sounds like it may be an issue of first and second c-sections more than the doctors.

Mine were both scheduled because my first was breech. The doctor who did my first c-section is amazing, I totally trust him and he took a really long time stitching me back up. The doctor who did my second one was fine but I was never quite as comfortable with him.

My second recovery was SO much better. I was up and around my hospital room the next day and didn't have nearly the same level of discomfort with things like moving in bed and standing up from sitting.

My doctor said the fact that I already had scar tissue in the area was a big reason it wasn't as painful - essentially I already had nerve damage in the area of my incision so the next surgery didn't hurt as badly.

My first C-section was an emergency after a very long failed induction. I had a great recovery overall, but I bled for the full 6 weeks and intercourse was painful for a long time. I didn't understand why since I didn't have a baby go through my junk, but it was super uncomfortable.

My second C-section was a scheduled RCS. They had to clean up some scar tissue and adhesions, so it took a little longer and it was a little more uncomfortable during because they had to go dig up way high in my ribcage to go grab DS2 (DS1 was already super low and stuck when they grabbed him), but the recovery was even better. I stopped bleeding by 2-3 weeks, intercourse wasn't nearly as painful and it stopped being painful way sooner, but my incision was a bit more sore because I had a 20 month old toddler to chase after and a second baby that was a little heavier than DS1.

I think getting off the catheter ASAP is key and getting up and moving after your section. I had 2 different doctors both times and I didn't get to pick either of them - it was whoever was scheduled to be in the OR that day. My scar both times was fine. Healed up really clean and neat.

My first was hardest. It was with whomever was on call that night.
My second and third were pretty easy and were scheduled with my OB.

My scar from my first looked awful but my subsequent scars are barely noticeable. Because how the scar looks is the most important thing. 😛

I've had 3 C sections, all with different doctors. Your second one would be expected to take longer, because of possible adhesions and scar tissue. The problems you describe (bladder issues, painful intercourse) are, unfortunately, associated with pregnancy, hormones and breastfeeding and might have nothing to do with a C section or who did it. FWIW, my 3 recoveries were all different - I actually had more trouble after my second and the first and third were no problem.

@erinbaderin: Thanks! I never thought about the fact that it's been 4 years since my 1st csec! Good point!

@MamaG: Unfortunately not unless it becomes an emergency situation. I'm scheduled right now for 39w exactly and insurance won't cover anything earlier.

I had the same doctor for both of my C-sections and recovery was certainly different both times. With my first my incision had an opening and I had a lot of drainage for weeks. With my second I never had that issue at all. I had some bladder issues the second time that involved leaving the catheter in longer than they wanted to and keeping me in bed longer that I didn't have the first time.

Is there any possibility of moving your C-section up to the prior week to be able to have the other OB?

I think every surgery is different and it's not the doctor. I've had two c sections with the same doctor and different feelings/recoveries both times. With my first I had no troubles, with my second I had some internal bleeding, a second night in the hospital, weird bladder stuff for at least a month, etc. Fingers crossed that everything goes well for you but I don't think you should be worried about the doctor. Also keep in mind that even if it was different techniques or something doctor #1 has had a few years since the last time to refine techniques, change strategies, etc.

I'm suddenly getting major anxiety over my 3rd csection.

My practice has two doctors, a male and a female. The male doctor did the delivery. I had some issues afterwards....(TMI time) it felt like my bladder was falling out when I peed for the first week or so, my incision was super painful for a long while, when my period came back months later, I couldn't wear tampons for months due to discomfort, sex was painful for awhile....nothing major, but still.

With my RCS, I ended up not making it to the RCS date and having an "emergency" csec. The female doctor was the one on call, and the one that delivered DS2. The csec itself took much longer, and in general, I felt like she was more meticulous. I had NONE of the issues I had with the first csection, and felt great afterwards. TMI again, I had even pooped by the next day with no problem, which as you know, is a feat in itself lol.

So now, I just scheduled my 3rd one, and was praying for the female doctor. Well, it turns out she's on vacation that entire week, so there's literally nothing I can do about it, unless baby comes early. I'm becoming afraid that all the issues I had with the 1st csec are going to be worse this time, since it's my 3rd one, and the male doc.

I guess I'm just looking for some reassurance. Every csec/surgery is different, despite the doctor, right? Or do you think the complications had to do with the doctor performing the surgery?
