@dc yoga bee: @marionberry: Anything ordered as regular care will be fully covered under my insurance, while anything coded as "infertility" is only coveted at 50%. My current OB will only code things as infertility- even just general appts to discuss the issue. I figured if I have to pay those prices, I should go see a specialist whose job it is to do these things, instead of an OB that just wants to code them that way. I am worried about the cost of everything, so I'm not sure if I should seek out a new OB that will order covered testing, or wait to see what the re says.

Depending on your insurance, many tests are covered at your ob's office if they can put them under a code other than infertility, whereas many insurance plans won't cover the tests at an RE because they are obviously for infertility. If this is an issue for your insurance, that's the only reason I'd try to be seen by another OB prior to your RE visit. Has your husband had a semen analysis run yet? The OB can do that too.

My OB ran some test, but my RE is running the same test plus a bunch more. I'd save the copay!

ETA: Agree with @MARIONBERRY too. My insurance covers all infertility testing, so it didn't matter if it was coded infertility or not. If your insurance doesn't cover it, I'd call and ask the RE if they will accept test from your obgyn (especially since it would only be a month prior). If so, then I'd have them done at your obgyn under a different code like she suggested. If not, I'd save that copay!

My current OBGYN, who was so compassionate and wonderful during my miscarriage, isn't being helpful with infertility.

I am working on getting an allowance from insurance to go straight to an RE, but as many of us know, infertility coverage from insurance is awful. Luckily, I was able to get a free consultation at an REs office for October, so it's a go regardless of insurance (at least for this first step).

Do you think I should seek out a new OBGYN to try to get a few tests run between now and the RE appt in late October? Or wait to see what the RE says?
