Well, i thought tonight was going well. She never did take a nap at all. I got her out of bed at 3 and we stayed up. We started bath at 6:35 and she was in bed by 6:55. She was absolutely silent for a full 45 minutes and then started screaming hysterically. This is the exact same thing she did last night.

She only cried for 5 minutes though, and seems to be asleep now.

@regberadaisy: first he was crying. i used to sit next to the crib and he'd be fine, and he'd eventually just pass out from being so tired. Then, one night, he started crying and my husband and I tried to wait it out for a few minutes and he catapulted himself out of the crib, like got up on the rail and jumped. I wouldn't believe it if i didn't see it.

@looch: that is interesting. A few times when M has gotten up DH went to get her and they both just fell asleep on the floor and she slept so well.

Was your son trying to climb out of the crib?

@zippylef: I would try it. I couldn't figure out what the heck the problem was with my son, he would cry for hours if I let him. Then one night, it clicked and he just walked himself over to the futon and climbed up when I said "it's time for bed."

@zippylef: I was worried about the same thing, because we had his toys in his room at that time. But it ended up not being an issue. I dunno hun, maybe you just try it and see how it goes? A floor bed maybe?

@zippylef: I'm convinced there's a regression. Or maybe it's hitting the talking milestone? Is your LO starting to talk? I've noticed in the past week or two M's vocabulary has really start to expand.

@sloaneandpuffy: Her main problem is just falling asleep in the first place. Once she's asleep, she still sleeps wonderfully.

@looch: She uses her crib comforter as a lovey, so she sleeps with that every night. Im totally afraid to switch her out of a crib. She's a climber and I feel like she would just be all out of bed and all over her room destroying stuff. She has not tried to climb out of the crib yet.

@zippylef: this is us!!!!!!

Our new plan last night was letting her stay up till 8pm. She went down a lot easier. But still woke up like every 40 minutes until 10pm. Then was up at 2am and didn't want to sleep so I brought her into bed with me. Which I need to stop doing!

Gl!

FWIW we had a very rough time on and off between 12 and 18 months or so. Previously we had done CIO but we decided not to do it again and I spent many hours lying on the floor of his bedroom until he fell asleep. (Oh yeah, also, I was pregnant LOL). Fortunately this all worked itself out after awhile. Sticker charts have been amazing for us. I don't know if your girl is ready for something like that yet? Every time she sleeps all night in her bed without calling for mom and dad, she gets a sticker. When she fills up the whole chart, she gets some kind of present. It may be early still for this but keep it in mind!

Just wanted to say good luck! Sounds like you have a firm plan in place--hope it works sooner rather than later so you and C get some sleep!

Does she have a lovey? I was against them until my son used his Glo Worm to fall asleep. He would play the music and the light was just enough for him to feel comfy.

Also, do you use a nightlight? I know you're not there yet, but this behaviour that you describe was my son to a T...he wanted out of the crib.

As an update to my previous post about struggling with my 15-month-old's sleep. She used to sleep well, since turning 1 she doesnt anymore. She is fighting sleep and naps like crazy, staying up up to 2 hours after we put her to bed, refusing to sleep.

We have decided to go back to her strict bedtime and bedtime routine that we used when she was tiny. She is going to get a bath every night again. Bathtime with start between 6:30-6:45 and she will be in bed by 7:00-7:15. We're going to do a bath, PJs, story and then bed with her white noise machine. I am also not letting her sleep in anymore. I set an alarm for 8am today woke her butt up.

Last night was night 1. It was bad, but better than the night before. We started bathtime at 6:45 and she was in bed by 7:15. She was quiet for about 20-25 minutes and then cried pretty hard for 20-25 minutes before falling asleep at 8. (The night before, she fought and cried for an hour and a half).

We have been doing checks, since my husband insisted on it. I told him they never worked the first time around but he didnt listen. I think he succeeded in totally un-sleep training her in the process. We are going back to the extinction method.

I woke her up at 8:30 this morning and she will be in bed by 7, allowing her 30 minutes to settle and fall asleep to get in the 13 hours she seems to need. Nap today (and yesterday) has been disastrous. Yesterday, she chose to cry for over an hour before I gave up and brought her back downstairs. Today is not faring better. She fell asleep for about 3 minutes in the car and then is now having a fit and refusing to take a nap at home. It's been nearly an hour but I think she might be giving up. I've decided that she WILL be in her crib from 1-3 (im going to try for 12:30-2:30 after we get nighttimes ironed out) every afternoon. If she doesn't sleep, she doesn't sleep and thats on her. She will sit there and deal though.

I am at the end of my patience, for real. This kid is driving me nuts. I have a blistering headache from her being a crab all morning because I woke her up and her sitting here yelling for the past house while I have tried to get her to nap.

Please don't tell me that CIO is cruel, etc, because you may get your head bitten off today. It's what works for us. I don't need judgment.
