@meganmp: Exactly!!! That's what I want to be able to say if anyone ever tries that "not a big deal" line with me...but unfortunately, by the time I recovered from the shock, it would probably be too late.

@SweetiePie: you're comment hits the nail on the head--she wasn't trying to be hurtful, but she's just clueless. Unless you've gone through it or are close to someone who has, it's hard to know what infertility is like.

@FaithFertility: I'm sure you handle it with grace. I've always been impressed with your positive attitude!

You can be the one who has three other people in the room when your baby is finally moved to your uterus."

@Leialou: See, this is why I love my IVF gals ;-) We all get it when no one else does!
I think that people think IVF is so run of the mill these days, that it's not a big deal. And PREACH about the translocation. I know our situations are slightly different but you get it more than anyone on these boards. The translocation I carry is a game changer and I just need to accept the fact that it's not common so hardly anyone will understand.
A friend of mine who had a miscarriage and mild pcos told me after I told her about my translocation and miscarriages "just go to an RE and they'll give you clomid and you'll be fine!"
Well it doesn't really work that way. Ha! She didn't mean to be offensive - she's just clueless!
And trying to explain the PGD and IVF process in detail? Forget about it. I thought it would make people more understanding of what we did for a baby, but no. They still say "see they can do anything with science these days. It's not even a big deal!"
I'll end there because I could go on forever ;-)

I absolutely love the happy ending stories after years of struggle. It bugs me to no end to get all of the comments though.

You waited a long time to get your miracle babe, and that's such a happy thing. The "you just needed to relax" comments are infuriating.

We struggled for 8 months to get pregnant. I got all of the "see...you just hyped yourself up way too much...you needed to relax" comments. And then I miscarried. I got pregnant again 5 months later and miscarried again. Finally, a year and a half after we first started trying, I got pregnant with LO. He really is the light of our life and we're so happy to have him. When he was 10 months, I found out I was pregnant again and was really excited about the possibility of 2 under 2...and then I miscarried again. If anyone tells me that I "just need to relax" again, they may get punched in the face. It is so unhelpful, and I know that they just don't understand.

I hope your pregnancy goes very smoothly and you have a happy and healthy 9 months!

Getting pregnant without intervention is amazing! It definitely doesn't downplay everything you went through though. That pain and frustration is real.

@SweetiePie: that makes me angry. IVF is a big deal. It's invasive and intimidating. And with your translocation it's even more high stakes in my mind.

@FaithFertility: I got the antibiotics, and was like, seriously, at this point i had tried clomid, accupuncture, herbs, and a free scrip si what I really needed? Good grief... But then we did need IUI eventually. Still unexplained IF so we'll see what happens if/when i can get pregnant on my own.

There are lots of us who have been in your situation and are thrilled for you! People who think that it is just because you "relaxed" don't get that until you figured out what the issue was no amount of relaxing was going to make it work.

@FaithFertility: I was DX with mycoplasma after my 1st miscarriage too... knocked it out with free antibiotics. Isn't it crazy that something so trivial and tiny can cause SO MANY PROBLEMS!???

We tried for about 2.5-3 years (i can't remember any more at this point) before our successful IUI. And the comments people gave were annoying.

First of all, your stories is one of the happiest on HB to me. I just am so excited for you!

Secondly, it took a while but I've come to accept the fact that those who have never had trouble ttc or recurrent miscarriage (and to me recurrent is a key word here, not that a single MC isn't hard but it's not the same as recurrent) can't understand the stuff we've been through. The emotions, the physical trauma, etc. no matter how many times I try to tell the "lucky ones" about our troubles it always ends with some comment that makes me feel like they are minimizing what we went through. I guess that's the trouble for me. Yes, I am happy that we are pregnant and baby is healthy, even though we got here after a long road that ended in IVF. But I can't and don't want to forget that hard road. I appreciate the blessing we have so much more and it is irritating when people say things like "IVF isn't a big deal anymore". I think they think they are being helpful by downplaying, but to me it's rather insulting.
In the end I recognize that they don't mean any harm, I guess they just don't understand and won't so I just need to make peace with it and move on. My husband and I know what we went through and as long as we remember the struggle, we appreciate the reward that much more :-)

I was TTC for a year.

I had very long, irregular cycles and it appeared that I was not ovulating.

After two doctors, a whole battery of tests, multiple medications and months and months of standstill waiting I was diagnosed with PCOS.

After even more waiting for stupid reasons, I was recommended some treatment. To start, monitored cycles with Clomid, timed intercourse and progesterone supplements... we'd move on to IUI in a few cycles if that didn't take.

Treatment was delayed because of the Christmas holidays (the clinics are closed around that time, so I had to skip that cycle). We had to wait until January, so things still felt like they were not moving.

The week before Christmas I was visiting my family 5 hours away. My sister was pregnant so I already had to handle that and SIL called us to inform us she was 10 weeks pregnant also. DH and I were having a pretty bleak holiday season.

We decided on the drive home that we should tell our families what we have been going through, as we hadn't talked about it with them before this.

So, the day before Christmas eve I decided to take a pregnancy test just to be sure before telling everyone about our trouble. I already knew it was going to be negative though. As I was unpackaging the HPT I was repeating to myself "It's going to be negative. It's going to be negative" to try and prepare myself for the inevitable disappointment.

When the second line appeared (in literally seconds) I was in disbelief. I just starred at the test. My first thought was "I'm an idiot, this is an OPK isn't it?" but I realized... no, it was an HPT. OMG.

I walked in to the bedroom where DH was still asleep and said "Uhm... I think I'm pregnant". He shot up like a rocket and examined the test with me. We both still just couldn't believe it. We were thinking maybe some medication caused this? Maybe the test is broken? Pregnancy just seemed impossible to us.

We called our RE who brought us in for blood work and they confirmed I was definitely pregnant. Just like that it went from being the worst Christmas ever to the best.

I'm now 30 weeks pregnant.

It really is a miracle... I always think of it as I was spared.

Quick synopsis: TTC for over a yr no success

Started seeing a RE, got diagnosis weak ovulation, rarely got my period/ovulated

Tried 4 IUI in about 10 month time span: #1 cancled to many egg. #2 successful, but lost chemical, #3 successful but lost chemical #4 unsuccessful

Started testing to find out more info: found a bacteria that can cause m/c got on antibiotics, and baby aspirin

During that time of blood test and waiting on results DH and I took a cruise, I was no meds other then baby aspirin, came home 2 weeks later I tested and well....... we got our miracle baby! :)

When I told people our story many said things like: I knew you just had to relax, or see you were trying to hard, or see and you wasted all that money :/

I'm sorry did they forget we TTC for almost 3 yrs, that's not normal

I'm my heart I think this road looking back made us closer as a couple and I think it helped us work out a few kinks in my health. .....I always had hope that it would "just happen" why else would I test!?!

Just So funny how people that have no clue, still have no clue.....

Just wanted to share because I'm sure I am not the only one!
