@Dahlia: Seems like a contradiction, doesn't it? I'm only half way through, reading a little each night. It's our book club book for October. I'm looking forward to discussing it.

@shellio: Thanks! I hope you like it.
I have tons of hobbies, but also have a slightly obsessive personality so I tend to get immersed in one thing and neglect others. Last year was photography. Year before that was crochet and cross-stitch. This year is having a 1.5 year old (and reading and halloween costumes).

My goal was 26 this year (inspired by some of you ladies!) and I'm on 21, so 1 book ahead of schedule. I am due in a month with my next baby and always have tons of reading time during nursing/pumping so I'm expecting to surpass my goal. I'm currently reading The Handmaid's Tale, Blitzed: Drugs in the Third Reich, and A Beautiful Poison. (Multiple books due to different devices and library returns/back on the waiting list.) Three that I've especially enjoyed this year: Ready Player One, The Warmth of Other Suns, and Elon Musk: Inventing the Future.

@TemperanceBrennan: I'm adding Evicted to my list! Sounds fascinating! Good for you for bumping up your reading this year, I did the same and it feels good to do something I enjoy so much.

@Dahlia: Just added Underground Railroad, thanks for the rec.

Since I barely read 5 books in all of 2015 and 2016, my goal was 12 books this year. I joined a book club to keep me on track. Happy to say I'm at 18 which is huge for me.
Just finished The Almost Sisters by Joshilyn Jackson and currently reading Evicted: Poverty and Profit in the American City.

Evicted has totally consumed me, but I can only read a chapter or so at a time because it is so upsetting. I consider myself a bleeding heart super liberal, but I had NO idea the specifics of how the cards are stacked against the chronically poor in inner cities and the profit that is made off of them. I would strongly recommend this book to anyone.

I'm trying to read 50, and I'm at 36 so two books behind. (Then again, I just finished the Oh Crap potty training book, so maybe that counts?!)

I've enjoyed The Alice Network and Letters to the Lost if you're into WWII fiction.

I'm not doing the challenge, but I've just read some good ones I wanted to recommend!

Underground Railroad by Colson Whitehead was amazing but so hard to read because of how tragic it is.

The Storied Life of AJ Fikry by Gabrielle Zevin, The Rosie Project by Graeme Samson, Small Admissions by Amy Poeppel, and The Lake House by Kate Morton are a little lighter and really good.

Haha I'm exactly halfway behind you- my goal is 52 and I've read 41. I feel like it's been forever since I've read something truly stirring, everything lately has been just OK. I'm working through a stack of Jennifer Weiner books this week and I know they're all going to be just OK too- reliably decent and enjoyable but not amazing.

OMG, I'm so jealous!

My goal was only 30 books and I've only read 13!! I'm 10 books behind schedule! AHHH!!

I got into kind of a rut by spending too much time trying to read some books that just weren't really interesting me, but instead of dropping them and starting something new, I just sat around avoiding reading them. But I finally dropped them and started reading some books I'm actually interested in, so hoping I can make up for lost time.

Currently reading The Human Division by John Scalzi.

How are your challenges going? Are you on track to hit your goal? Have you read anything you've loved?

My goal is 104 and I'm at 82 and partway through 3 others, so more or less on track, but I might have to read some short books over the next month. I did it easily last year but I didn't think about how much less time I'd have for reading once I went back to work - 2 books a week with two kids and a full time job is a lot different than 2 books a week on mat leave.

I'm reading Little Fires Everywhere right now and loving it. I've also recently liked Blackout by Connie Willis and The Light Between Oceans by ML Stedman (although it was SO sad).
