It was unlimited until she started reading for hours. She's reading novels now so I guess there's no obvious stopping point. But I put an end to that by telling her to watch the clock and put her book down by X time.

I let my DD (2 & 1/4) get in and out of bed freely, with full access to her entire book collection and most of her toys. She usually reads but sometimes she falls asleep with half of her play kitchen in bed with her. I figure no damage done.

@Mae: that's a good point. Mine started asking for a book the last couple months in her crib, but one book was it. The flashlight and unlimited reading came after her big girl bed (28 months+).

I don't let my LO have anything in her crib except her lovie and 2 pacis. I'm worried if I give her other stuff she'll never sleep. and/or roll into it and wake her up (she rolls a loooot).

I let mine. She has a flashlight she uses and in the morning, her bed is always covered with books. If she seemed chronically tired, we'd reassess, but otherwise, I'm happy to be raising a kid who loves to read.

My 2yo does this. I let it go. For the first week or so, she would read before bed and before naps. Now she *usually* goes immediately to sleep. The major bonus for me is that it keeps her entertained in the mornings, so I can finish what I'm doing before she starts calling for me.

My 2.5 year old threw a couple of books in his crib this evening and I didn't fight it... figured he'll read for a bit and then go to sleep. Well, he's been reading for almost an hour.

Is this a bad habit to start? Do you let your toddler read for as long as they want?
