Well, I was definitely worrying for nothing! My OPK test was positive today, and it's also my and DH's anniversary! So fingers crossed that we have some successful BDing tonight :)

I know that many people prefer to give the body a break and wait a year, but there's a lot of reasons this timing would be great for us, and there are many women in my family who have kids close together (my brother and I are a year and a week apart!) I'm just relieved that my concerns about ovulating turned out to be nothing.

@wonderstruck: I got my period back right away eventhough I was BF. You are only 4 months PP, I wouldn't stress. You can still get pregnant, just chart like PP said.

I think you just have to be patient and give your body a chance to recover. Four months is a pretty short time to get pregnant again -- I remember in all my birth classes, we were always told to give our bodies a year-long break, if at all possible. :)

If you're actively BDing and charting, etc., you should have a good chance of getting pregnant again once your body starts ovulating at its pre-pregnancy rate. It just varies -- some women get their period right away after giving birth even if they're breastfeeding, others don't for 9 months or a year. I was in the 4-5 mo. timeframe.

@SweetMamaM: Yeah good call, I was kind of stalling on seeing a doctor because we've been having some insurance issues since I left my job, but about an hour after I last posted I got a phone call and it's all sorted out now! So I'll definitely at least make an appointment and check.

Just another thought, I started having crazy long cycles when TTC #1 and it turned out an old injury had got worse, causing a lot of inflammation in my pelvic area. Two months with the Chiro and I was pregnant... Could be worth a visit just to make sure the birth didn't put anything out of alignment?

Thanks @Vegmama! I just started charting about a week ago and am still getting the hang of it. Hopefully it will give me a better idea of my cycle. I guess I'm just worrying that my body isn't going to start ovulating again on it's own anytime soon. I know it's probably to soon to be worrying about that since I just gave birth 4 months ago, but of course I turned to google and read a bunch of awful stories about people who had a super easy time conceiving their first child and then dealt with infertility while trying to have a second. I know, overreaction considering it's only been 4 months. I'm just being impatient!

Have you been charting? Taking your temp in the AM to see a pattern during your cycle?

I don't have personal experience (as I'm just now pregnant with baby #1), but charting helped give me a way better look at my cycle, and eventually led to a BFP. I was ovulating a week later than I thought.

Anyone? I know it's kind of a unique situation and maybe I should just wait, but was hoping someone would have advice. Or at least find out when others got their period back if they weren't breastfeeding so I know if this is normal or a concern.

My LO is 4 months old and I stopped BFing completely a couple of months ago. Right when I started weaning LO and incorporating formula, my period came back. That was in mid-June...and then it disappeared. No period for July, August, or (so far) September. As the thread title says, my DH and I want to start TTC again because we're hoping to not have much of an age gap between our kids. I had been hoping to have it happen soon because my DH and mom have a much less busy schedule and more time to help out during the summer, and I guess I kind of took for granted that last time I got pregnant on the first try and got to pretty much pick the time of year I ended up giving birth. But now my period is gone and I'm showing no signs of ovulation, and I'm not sure if I just need to be patient and it's normal that my period is taking awhile to really return, if I should be concerned, or if there's anything I can do to help my body start ovulating again.

I did buy some ovulation tests that I've been using for about a week, but as I expected so far the results are all negative.
