And I use my fingers to apply coconut oil after every poop + if he's red/rashy. </p> <p>Go up a size in disposables when they feel snug/are leaky around the legs. They've never had issues except if they pooped and I don't change them right away. I use a q-tip for aquaphor or diaper cream. And I go up in size if he is consistently leaking out of his night time diaper and it's super full when he wakes up. I sometimes forget to pull the tabs tighter and he'll leak out of the larger size. Mom is lazy that way.</p> <p>At this point we use q-tips for all ointment application. (I realize it probably won't work so well when LO is mobile). So many of the ointments are waterproof, smelly, and hard to wash off by design. Always wipe even when it is just pee. I've found you can tell when you. We'd to go up a size as the diaper is tight. We have to go up a couple pounds before what the package says is the upper weight limit. When I think it is time to go up in size I try a couple in the bigger size before finishing the smaller size lack. </p> <p>As for the vasaline to make the poop wipe off easier, we did that for the first few poops as that is hard to wipe off. We use aquaphor unless she looks irritated, then we use the butt paste for a few days. </p> <p>The nurse also squeezed the Vaseline into the diaper and then rubbed that into her butt, which is what Dh still does. But now we have a tub of it so he smooches the diaper ok it then runs that on her butt, which I think is wasteful. I put the diaper cream on with my hand, but luckily she rarely needs it. So far for sizing, we go by how snug they are on her, and how many blowouts. I always squeeze the ointment onto his bum and I don't rub it in. If he's looking a little red, then I use triple paste, which I wipe on (it's in a tub). I go by the sizes suggested by pampers, or until he starts having frequent blowouts. We've only gone up one size; from newborn to 1s. </p>
