It might also be possible to use the infant bucket without the base, that might give you a better install in the front seat. But check with the car seat manufacturer.

I believe any 2 seater vehicle should have a way to turn the airbags off. I know my FIL's work trucks do. If you can figure that out, should be fine! Maybe check the manual or call your local dealership to ask. If there's not a way to turn it off yourself perhaps the dealership could unhook it 'under the hood' or something.

Here's what carseat.org says http://www.carseat.org/Resources/FAQs.htm#pickup

If you must install a safety seat in the front seat of a pickup truck, make sure the air bag is turned off, either with an on/off switch or with an automatic sensor (check indicator light). Some passenger air bags will expand to cover the center seating position, so installing a safety seat in that location may be dangerous to your child. Check the vehicle owner’s manual to find out where child safety seats may be installed. Installing a safety seat in the front seat of any vehicle increases the risk of death to your child by more than 30%, so a pickup truck without a back seat is not the safest choice for transporting a child.

We only use one car to haul our LO around. Our other is a two door and its just too much hassle.

This was our problem too, but we ended up getting a crossover. I was SOOO sad to have to get rid of my truck. DH's car doesn't have the latch system either, and we just use the seatbelt to keep the base attached.

@MrsTiz: Do you use it half the time because you need the truck bed, or for no reason? Once LO is here we plan to pretty much exclusively use my car, which is an SUV. DH has a tiny car and I have really long legs, which is not a good combo. We'll have a carseat in there so he can do part of the daycare runs, but I doubt we'll ever all 3 of us ride in his car unless it's an emergency.

@Foodnerd81: Well I have an SUV, but we use DH's truck about half of the time. We'll probably end up using my car primarily but DH needs to be able to get the baby or drive us all somewhere too

You don't need latch to install a carseat, the seatbelt is equally as safe when installed properly. I think as long as your airbag is off you should be fine. Double check with Ford if you have any concerns, I'm sure they have a 1-800 number you could call.

Is that your only car? Honestly, it seems really hard!

That said, without the Latch system, there is a metal clip you put on the seatbelt somehow to lock it. Our car doesn't have the Latch either so I need to get the metal clip (my sister gave me her carseat, but is still looking for that one piece).

My DH drives a single cab (one row) truck. We use it about 50% of the time, it's paid off and we don't have room for a car payment and a baby right now, so we're stuck with it.

I know legally you can put a car seat in the front as long as the airbags are turned off, but I can't think off the top of my head if his has that ability or not.

Is anyone else having to deal with this? Which seat did you get? We'll need something narrow.

It's a 2000 Ford F150 Sport, single cab. I don't even think it has the LATCH system??
