we're trying to go as long as possible. at 17 months and 24lbs DS is still perfectly comfortable and doesn't complain. if we ever had issues with screaming or car sickness, we might reconsider.

Wow, 4? Around here, most moms I know flip at 1, their docs tell them it's OK, and they think I'm crazy for wanting to go until 2 with my DD. She's extremely tall, and at nearly 14 months old is in 24 month clothes, and has her little legs and feet jammed up against the seat, but we'll try to make it work until she's as close to 2 as possible.

@mrskc: No. =( There is no "space" under the back seats & I couldn't even get the diaper bag shoved under the front passenger seat earlier.... I tried to search for some solutions for the "trunk" area but didn't really find any

I think what I'm going to do is get some clear storage bins with lids that lock that I can put groceries & other things in & just bungee those down.
Something like this: http://www.target.com/p/sterilite-clearview-purple-storage-box-with-latching-lid-66-qt/-/A-13794509

And I guess atleast for now this will do for the stroller & when G isn't in the car I can put his booster in the "basket" part of the stroller just under the bungee... I already put our emergency kit underneath the stroller so I don't think that's going anywhere . (bungeed to the back seat frame)

[attach=1400/13/mnn3v5.600x450.stroller-bungee.jpg]

If anyone has any better ideas please do share!

@runsyellowlites: This is our problem too. We have a chevy traverse and I don't know how to secure everything in the back. I just spent my lunch break googling for a good solution. You can use tie backs. Which would be good for the stroller. I'm not sure if a cargo net is strong enough. And so far all I can find are the kind that go vertical. There are pet barriers, but still not sure how secure that is in a crash. Can the booster be tucked under a seat?

@MrsLilybugg: I'm glad you posted this too!

My sister had to turn her two-year-old around because she's tall for her age (dad is 6'10"). It was hard to keep her scrunched up in a rear-facing seat and seemed safer to turn her around. Although, I'll send her this and see what she thinks.

I am actually glad you posted this because I really didn't know one way or the other yet (we have a long time until we even have a two year old, or a four year old for that matter).

I won't watch any of the videos because I'm already a nervous enough driver, but I think I understand the point!

LO isn't here yet, so I have a while, but I think I'll rear face as long as I can. I know my sister turned my nephew to front facing a little earlier than she planned (can't remember when but I think it was before 2?). He screamed bloody murder in the car before that. She felt that ultimately, it was safer for her to not be so distracted driving with a screaming baby than the reduced safety of a forward facing seat. He's been much better, so she doesn't know if he was bored since he couldn't see out so well, or if he was really carsick (she gets bad motion sickness) but she feels it's safer this way. So, just a point from the other side.

Baring anything like that, I'll stay rear facing as long as I can. And will not watch the scary videos.

@Navy_Mommy: i'm going to share this to facebook. i have several friends that forward face their 18 month or younger LOs.

I just don't think the sentiment "but it's uncomfortable" is a good enough reason to turn LO around. i'd rather hear my LO scream for the 30 minute ride than screaming during hours of intense physical therapy. or worse, not being able to hear LO scream at all because they didn't survive a car accident.

i know it's something we don't like to think about but the fact is accidents happen every. single. day. we should do everything possible to keep our precious babes safe.

@mediagirl: @CALSmom had posted a similar video on her FB page - do you remember that? Scary, but very factual information!!

I agree with pp's!

Hearing people say "oh they're uncomfortable, they didn't like it... they complained..." etc in regard to turning them forward-facing, I just like to think that my childs safety is first priority, not their wants/comfort.

J is definitely still rear facing (just over 20 lbs and 15 months) and I don't plan to switch him anytime soon. If I could make it until 3 that'd be great!

I planned to RF til LO exceeds the weight/height limit but I had no idea it could take that long.. I thought 2-3 tops, haha. I guess we will plan for longer but if there comes a time where every outing becomes miserable bc she's uncomfortable or upset we may think about switching.

AAP recommends age 2. We kept #1 rear facing until almost 3 because she is so tiny. But she was at a point where she knew that all other kids her age were facing forward and I didn't want to stigmatize her for being so small, so we flipped her around.
