Yep. Needle! The needle, to me, didn't hurt much at all. Definitely way, way less pain than nursing.

@Foodnerd81: definitely sounds like a milk blister! Next nap time, sterilize a needle and poke it!

@Foodnerd81: Ok yeah, that's probably a bleb! Those are painful. If heat doesn't work, you can sterilize a needle (boil it or wipe down with an alcohol pad) and use the tip to help get it out. It helps if you put pressure just behind it, it starts to raise up like a tiny pencil eraser and that's when you can get it out.

@regberadaisy: aha. I can see a whitish spot on the nipple. Tried hand expressing and a hot washcloth, now letting her nurse on this side and hoping it gets out.

@Foodnerd81: hopefully it's not a blood blister! :/ I got milk blisters a lot with DD2 for some reason, but never with DD1. I've had it happened at work and was successful once getting it open while picking at it. Sounds gross but when you're in pain, you're desperate!

@regberadaisy: it's like, on the nipple. When she latches it feels like she is tearing my nipple off with non existent teeth, but she latches perfectly and painlessly on the other side so I'm assuming it's the boob not the baby. Tried different positions and it's slightly better but still very painful.

Need to look in the light for a clogged duct or blister... Then remember how to resolve them. Massage in the hot shower right? The idea of going at it with a clean needle is not happening today.

Is the pain internal or on the surface? Clogged duct, irritate skin, cut, milk blister are some things that come to mind.

You would think I'd remember this after nursing C for almost 20 months, but what are reasons that just one side would hurt, a lot, when baby nurses?

G is almost 3 weeks old and we had some issues BF early on, but her latch has always been good and things have been going great for a week at least. But yesterday the right side started really hurting when she latches. Like even using a nipple shield or changing positions, I can't tolerate her nursing on that side this morning. What should I look for? Clogged ducts? Anything else it could be? We've worked very hard to get here (oversupply, extreme and painful engorgement, fore milk hind milk imbalance). But OW. Even putting a bra and nursing pad on feels very tender.
