I was 39+6 with high BP, so my OB decided to induce. I was worried but so tired of being pregnant. By the time I got to the hospital, my BP normalized but it was like..."you're here so let's do it." I was already at a 3 and 60-70% thinned out so they thought I was a favorable candidate. Yeah...no. He just wasn't ready so they cranked me full of pitocin. It took 32 hours and 3 hours of pushing. I am fine with the way things turned out because I now have my son but I would ABSOLUTELY rethink having an induction in the future unless it was completely necessary.

I was induced at 39w+1d because of very low fluid levels. They had been monitoring it since 36 weeks and by 39 weeks it had dropped really low. It took 2 days for that baby to come out. They wanted to do c-section but i was pushing for vaginal so that's the way it happened. And then my cord snapped and a bunch of other stuff happened. I wouldn't want to induce again, but if we had to, I would.

Last time I had high BP and was induced at 39 weeks, this time I had pre-e and was induced at 38 weeks. I loved my inductions and had a baby less than 8 hours after they began even though I was not a good candidate for induction either time.

I was induced at 41+1 bc they were concerned that she was getting too big and also bc I was so ready for her to be out. I'm pretty sure that if I wasn't induced then I would have been induced later bc LO did not want to leave.

No regrets. Everything turned out fine. It was also nice knowing when I would be going into hospital.

I was scheduled to be induced at 40w2D...

Had a NST at 39 weeks - everything was fine.

Dr Appointment at 40w1d (a Weds) Dr told me I had to option to induce. If I did not induce I would need NST every 2 or 3 days to make sure bambino was a-okay.

I trust my Dr very much. I asked he what he opinion was on inductions and how the body reacts to them - she is a firm believer your body will react similarly to the natural process as it will to pitocin. I scheduled the induction for the next morning (otherwise it would have been 8 days later bc the next time a Dr I liked was on call was Sept 11 and I didnt want to choose that birthday for my daughter). I asked her to do as rough of a membrane sweep as she could - OUCH! I had been 3cm and 80% for 2+ weeks at that point.

I went into labor 12 hours later (7 hours before my induction time).

I will get to choose this time if I want to be induced at 39w to ensure I get one of my dr's (they have partnered with a large practice who I will not meet during my pregnancy) - still unsure if I will or not.

I was overdue, and my OB wanted to schedule an induction. I was seeing her twice a week, and she kept asking when we were going to schedule it. I kept procrastinating the decision. I had two NSTs with normal results. I had a routine pregnancy other than being slightly AMA (36) and having an anterior placenta.

My water broke at 10pm on 41+2, my labor started at 2am on 41+3, and I delivered my son vaginally at 1am on 41+4. (I caved and got an epidural at 9.5cm at 7pm on 41+3.)

I am so glad I procrastinated the induction!

Due dates are averages/estimates. They are not deadlines.

If the babies stay in, I will be induced at 34 weeks. I have PPROM (preterm premature rupture of membranes) and I sprung a small leak at 28 weeks. I have been put on hospital bed rest since then and will be in the hospital til the babies come.
They are monitoring me and the babies for the risk of infection. After 34 weeks, the risk of infection increases greatly for me so which is why it's safer to deliver the babies then to leave them in. They will be nicu babies but I trust my OB and the research that is out there that it is better to deliver at 34 weeks.

@Mae: my midwife was telling me that apparently meconium in the waters is no longer automatically considered a sign that baby is definitely in distress. My little guy had meconium in his waters but he showed absolutely no signs of distress during labour!

As for me, I had GD (diet controlled) and standard practice for my OB is to induce at 41 weeks however she was prepared to work with me if I really wasn't keen and baby and I were both well. As it was my 41 weeks fell on Easter Monday so I would have been comfortable inducing on the Tuesday at 41+1

@andthewildones: I was in a similar situation to you. Low risk pregnancy, went past due date but no concerns. I ended up with induction at 40+6. DH and I did a lot of research and there are risks of going too late--placenta can start to deteriorate, baby can get too big for vaginal delivery etc. so it seemed like induction was a way to not invite too many new risks. I also talked with my OB about my "bishop score" which indicates how favorable you are for induction. My induction was smooth and I had a healthy delivery and baby! Good luck!

@andthewildones: It went pretty quickly as far as an induction goes (19 hours). The magnesium drip for the blood pressure control is supposed to make people feel very woozy, but it didn't have that effect on me. I had a vaginal delivery after pushing for about 10 minutes. I did have a hemorrhage afterwards, but I don't know if there was anything that specifically caused it. I did not need a transfusion or anything like that, so it was not severe.

I hope this doesn't freak you out, but wanted to let you know everything that happened. Best of luck this week, induction or no induction! Baby on the way!

@Mae: that's intense! glad you both got through it. that they can have a bowel movement while still in utero terrifies me! there are so many stories where that does not end happily.
@kayakgirl73: goodness!! good thing you went ahead with it then.
@Alivoo01: how was she?? until now i had necer considered that the placenta could basically call it quits before being full term. my ob has been mentioning his growth since 37 weeks but has been skimpy on specifics, i have assumed because baby is sitting so low.
@DillonLion: how'd it go?

I was induced at 38 weeks due to high bp and protein in the urine (pre-e). I didn't think about any other options (like waiting) even though I had high bp throughout majority of the pregnancy. I trusted the ob and everything went well. They told me everything that was going to happen and it went pretty quickly for me.

I was induced at 41+1. My OB office doesn't induce on the weekends, so I could have gone up to 41+2, or waited until 41+6. I decided to schedule for 41+1 with an appointment the day before (at 41 weeks exactly), knowing I could push it back if I really wanted to. At that appointment, my fluid was borderline low so I kept my induction date for the next day. The induction went so, so well -- about 13 hours start-to-finish -- and I don't regret a thing!

I was induced at 38 weeks exactly due to pre-eclampsia. My blood pressure was through the roof and lots of protein in my urine. Very legitimate for health and safety of mom and baby! I wasn't apprehensive, I just didn't know very much about inductions. The process was well explained, and I was confident in my midwives' plan.

I was induced at 40 weeks and One day, Largely because I was done. By inducing I was sure to get my OB. I was AMA. Baby had been breech until late and I really didn't want her to go back. I went in the hospital the night before to get Cervadil and I turned out to be 4 centimeters already, I wasn't feeling anything probably because hips were hurting so bad. So they kept me but no Cervadil. Pitocin was started at six am and my doc broke my water at 7:30. Merconium in the water. She was born at 3:30 with a tight cord around her neck. She didn't aspirate the merconium so no NICU time. I'm glad I went for the induction.

I was induced for both kids, both for PIH and possible pre-e. For LO1, I was induced at 38w+2, after having increasingly elevated BP (I think it was 160/90 and wasn't going down after being admitted to L&D for monitoring). No protein urine though.

For LO2, I was induced at 38w after having been admitted twice previously to L&D for monitoring due to high BP (and so bloodwork could get down ASAP). No protein again, so no official diagnosis of pre-e.

I trust my doctors, though with LO1, maybe we could have waited a little bit longer. Since we were first time parents, we just did what the doctor said. With LO2, I really wanted to wait until he was at least 38 weeks to induce. The doctors agreed to wait until then. In discussing the risks of developing pre-e, my doctor explained that there is some debate as to whether or not protein in the urine is necessary for a diagnosis of pre-e, which is the current medical requirement. I also wanted to avoid pre-e since I know you'd have to go on mag sulfate and I've heard horror stories.

In the end, it all went well! It was actually kind of nice to have LO2's induction scheduled so we could properly prepare LO1 and have our back-up childcare arranged.

Good luck!

I was induced at 41+1 for very low fluid. It was a terrible process that caused some short term trauma for my daughter, so I would not allow another one unless it was absolutely required for our safety. I was with midwives, so I felt comfortable that they weren't inducing me just for their own convenience. If I have to have another NST this pregnancy, I know now to guzzle a gallon of water beforehand to help top off my fluid levels.

#1 Induced at 41w1d (delivered 41w2d) due to being post dates and my office's policy is not to go beyond 41w even though MFM said fluid was good and everything was good and I could go to to 42w.

#2 induced at 40w due to inevitably going to go beyond 41w and having severe SPD pain. My midwife gave me the option to induce as early as 39w but we waited until LO's due date.

#3 will most likely be an induction as well. My midwife stated with #2 that some women just cannot start labor on their own for whatever reasons and once induction is started they do beautifully and she believes I am one of them. I'm okay with another induction. I again have the option of going as early as 39w.

I was induced for high BP. Through my whole pregnancy it had been normal/low except for one early appointment (16 weeks maybe) when I'd been on the phone fighting with my boss on the way to my appointment and I was all worked up by the time I arrived. At 41+1 I had an ultrasound to check fluids and a NST planned to make sure I was okay waiting until 42 weeks like I wanted. fluid checked out okay but when they took my bp after it was high (I want to say like 160/90 or something...). They told me to head over to labor and delivery to get my urine checked for protein and for monitoring. When I walked in the nurse told me (before she'd checked a single thing) that I was getting induced and having a baby that day. I flipped the f out because I did not want to be induced and I felt like they were jumping the gun based on just 1 high bp. They rechecked my bp and it was a little lower but still high. I demanded to see my midwife because I thought she'd put the kibosh on the induction since they are so anti-induction. Instead when she walked in she basically confirmed what the nurse said. She said hospitals don't just let 41 week pregnant women with high bp walk out the door, protein in my urine or not. Sigh. (as it turned out, there was not protein and I did not have pre-e).

I still struggle with how I feel about it. On one hand I feel like there is nothing more I could have done. I was with the most natural-minded anti-intervention medical group in my city and I don't have a medical degree. If they said that I had to be induced I have a hard time saying they are wrong.

On the other hand, I did end up with a c-section because LO was in a bad position and was stuck in my pelvis and I wonder if she had had a few more days to wiggle around if things would have gone better for me. And I question how dangerous it really would have been to wait.

But then on the other hand (because ya know, I have 3 hands I guess lol) there was meconium in my fluid when my water broke so I worry that if we'd NOT induced, LO might have gotten a lung infection from getting that crap (literally) in her lungs and sitting in it for another 4 days.

But then on the OTHER hand (up to 4 now I guess..) maybe there was only meconium because she was stressed about the induction and she WOULDN'T have pooped if I'd not been induced (or at least not until I was in natural labor in which case it would have been no different).

So basically I don't know. I don't necessarily feel good about the way LO's birth went down but the bottom line is that I don't have the expertise to overrule the medical professionals. I picked the most natural choice I had and they told me I had to be induced so I need to trust it was really necessary.

I was induced because.... my ob felt like it? I don't really know, it was largely because he wanted to be there for the birth and the timing worked out for him. I was so scared I let him talk me into it. Hilariously enough it took 3 days and he never responded to the nurses phone call so the ob on call delivered. I was at exactly 40 weeks.
