Sounds like a normal newborn to me too! My DD nursed literally every hour during the early growth spurts. Enjoy the cuddles, Mama and keep up the good work!!

@Mrs D: Thanks, we introduced the pacifier a week or so ago. We've had limited success with it. It seems to work outside the house if he's just been fed. So it helps with car rides and errands. Im probably less committed to making if work inside the house since it's easier to nurse but I'll try it out again when I get frustrated.

I'd guess he's having his 6 weeks growth spurt a bit early and that would account for his desire to BF all the live long day. I wouldn't worry about it!

Yes, totally normal! My DD is almost 4 months now, but I remember that first growth spurt around 3.5/4 weeks and thinking my nips were sure to fall off from the constant nursing!

Thanks everyone. I tried to prepare myself for this visit but six days of even nice, well-meaning idle comments started to get in my head.

@Rainbow Sprinkles: His nap makes me so happy, especially since it lines up with LO1's nap. Every time it happens I relish it like it will be the last time it happens but I keep getting lucky.

Just another thought...albeit she was much younger my daughter did this at like 2-3 days old and I was frankly just exhausted. The nursery at the hospital would basically take her for 30 mins then bring her back because she was fussing...

I finally gave in and gave her a pacifier... she is totally a comfort sucker. She still nursed fine (actually better I think because I think my nursing sessions were more intentional than her just happening to get some milk while soothing herself) and I was able to recover for the next session.

Doesn't sound weird or bad to me what he is doing - just wanted to throw another perspective out there.

Nothing seem abnormal at all. Especially that 2.5 hour nap in the afternoon--that's awesome!

Remember, cluster feeding is good for him and it is good for YOU! There is also a growth spurt at 4 weeks (and an even bigger one at 6 weeks) and they often like to eat around the clock when they're growing.

If weight gain is gong well, which it seems like it is, pay no attention to the comments of others. I feel like people are so obsessed with telling moms that breastfed babies are "too hungry" if they eat often. It's perfectly normal!

This is my 2nd BF baby and logically I know everything is fine but I have some extra people in my house that are making me question myself. 4 week old DS is at the breast darn near all the time. He goes about an hour and 5 minutes between start of feed to start of feed. He likes to pass out on the boob after eating. He will be happy off the boob for about 5 minutes and then he will fuss until he eats again. As long as he's eating he is happy. I have no reason to suspect low supply. He was at birth weight at his 2 day appt and tracking well at 2 & 3 weeks.

There are a few exceptions to the constant eating: he's OK in the K'tan (not feeding) for about an hour, he takes a 2.5 hour nap in the swing in the afternoon, and he does a 3-3.5 hour stretch of sleep at night.

Anything seem abnormal? I'm happy to sit and feed/hold him. I just need to more confidence to defend my feeding to the house guests waiting (and waiting and waiting) to hold him.
