I didn't do much comparison but we have the Recaro and really like it, plus you can often find a good deal on it.

@looch: yeah, but the they only list the standing height for FF, which is what I find annoying. The weight limits don't really paint the whole picture since I 99 percent of kids hit height limits before weight limits.

Anyway, it's worth a call to Britax (or both manufacturers, really) before buying. Frankly I think they make this stuff deliberately hard to find out!

We have the britax, I was between the same 2 and went with Britax because we had amazing customer service with them for our infant seat. I bought one off NBD.

We just bought the recaro but haven't installed it yet.

Buy Buy Baby doesn't carry the proride in store, just the prosport. We did try out the marathon in store though.
Ultimately the safety features as well as the height made the decision for us, plus the price (proride was $179 on amazon with the mom discount)

I had to look up the stats on the Britax site, because I all of a sudden had a panic attack about the rear and forward facing limits.

For the 70 models, the standing height limit is 49 inches, 40 lbs for rear facing and 70 for front facing. The Marathon classic has a lower weight limit.

My son's 2.5 years old, weight about 32 pounds and is 36 inches tall. He is still rear facing in his Boulevard, I'll probably switch him forward facing either when he's 3 or reaches the height/weight limits. We have a Swedish Britax as well, but we can't use that seat in the US, but I would love to be able to. It's rear facing up to 25 kgs and has a higher orientation.

@Mrs. Yoyo: Yeah, she's already 32" tall so that may put the Britax out for us. :( I dont really like the way the Radian's look but that may be our best option.

Thanks for the info!

@zippylef: ok, 50 is definitely the forward-facing limit. I can't find the manual online, but if you can get your hands on one I'd check regarding RF.

It's a couple years old, but I don't think they have changed the shell height.

@zippylef: they have to have an inch of clearance below the seat shell to stay RF, far as I know. I'll double-check. 50 may be the FF limit?

@Mrs. Yoyo: I looked and it looks like both have a limit of 50"? She's 32" tall right now, would she really get that tall before she's 2? I definitely want to keep her RF as long as possible.

We had a Marathon, and it was a great seat, but I just switched to a Radian because I didn't want to flip DS to forward-facing and he was at the rear-facing height limit. So something to think about if you have a tall LO and want them RF until 2 or beyond.

we have a recaro proride and love it. it is a little bulky(I have an SUV), but I feel like once it gets turned to forward facing it wouldn't be too bad. but not much bulkier than a marathon(which I've seen it next too)
ETA: we also plan on getting another Recaro when #2 needs a convertible

@looch: We'll be getting the sear after I get back to the states for good in a couple months. Travel isn't a huge deal anymore after that. We come from road-trip families.

@pelikila: Thats a really good idea. I'll have to look in to seeing if there is a place back home that would do that for me! I wonder if Buy Buy Baby would...

The only thing I'd consider is what you'd do for travel. I'd probably not bring a big bulky seat on a plane, but if it's not relevant, I'd get the Britax.

I voted Recaro but that is because we have 2 of them. When choosing we were torn between the Recaro and the Britax Boulevard 70. I went to a local store that carried both and had them put both seats in my car so I could see the fit when rear facing. The Recaro was a better fit for me ('08 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited). Almost all convertible car seats are big and bulky and will block your vision when rear facing. It comes down to your individual car most likely and what fits it best. Do you have the option of going somewhere and having them set both seats in your car so you can truly see fit? The Britax wasn't a winner for us because it had a more fixed recline than the Recaro and I needed a slimer profile. It still blocked my vision when rear facing outside that window (back passenger side) but I could live with that.

We have the Britax Marathon and we love it. It's primarily in a 2009 Toyota Corolla and fits really well. We haven't had any issues so far, it's been easy to install and use.

We currently own a Safety 1st Alpha Omega Elite convertible seat. It was never meant to be a long-term item, we needed one right away because C outgrew her infant seat and we couldnt wait for one to be shipped here. I like that it breask down into a booster seat and it will be able to handle her until she can just sit in the seat with the seatbelt though (it has a 65lb weight limit for the harness and a 100lb one for the booster).

We always meant to get a higher end seat as our primary seat when I got back to the states and then use the Alpha as our secondary seat to be moved between my parents cars and DHs car.

So, I THINK Im down between the Recaro ProRide and the Britax Marathon 70-G3. They are similar, have the same weight limits, etc. The seat will be installed in an 06 Nissan Maxima.

Any opinions? Did anyone try them? Own one of them? What do you think?
