On long flights I'm not so bothered about reclining but I feel that short flights don't really warrant a recline.

I don't mind when people recline their seats, but I'm not overly tall or anything. I just think it's one of those things you have to deal with though if you are flying- the seats are able to recline so you should assume most people will recline theirs.

I am really tall and it really does bother me. My knees hit the seat anyway, and when the person reclines, it puts pressure on them. I have asked people not to before, but I'll also just recline mine a little (ONLY if the person in front of me does), and grin and bear it.

I don't recline my seat as it annoys me when the person in front of me does it. However, I'd never get mad about it, I know it's totally expected! It made it awkward flying last time as I had B on my lap and with the seat in front reclined it just made things a little more difficult. It's totally the passengers right to though!

Everyone has a right to recline. I cannot even believe people are fighting about it and causing flights to be rerouted. Maybe airlines need to have a no recline section where everyone agrees not to recline

I do hate people who recline because I'm tall....but it's par for the course. I certainly expect it *shrug*. I hate when people recline aggressively. Thanks, but you don't really need to put your back into it, heh. I just wish they were stationary seats.

I think it's hilarious someone invented the Knee Defender. So smart.

But not much you can do. People can recline if they want to.

I'm glad I'm not the only person who reclines! Also I agree with the other things that people find annoying-- especially overstuffed bags! It occurs to me though that these things are all really the fault of the airlines.

- If they didn't keep minimizing personal space, people would be less hostile about reclining and arm rests
- If they didn't start charging for bags, people wouldn't try to shove everything they own into a carry-on
- If they didn't cut out food on most flights, people would be less likely to bring stinky inappropriate food on flights (I don't think anyone mentioned here, but it was in the article and is a personal pet peeve of mine).

I am more annoyed with...
1. People who douse their bodies with very strong cologne/perfume before a flight
2. People who hog the armrest
3. People who have bad breath and are sitting right next to you and want to tell you their life story....

I'm nearly 5 10 and I don't mind reclining as I just stretch my legs out under the seat anyway so the reclining would only make the tray closer to my belly not my knees. It is sooo much more comfy to recline!

I never recline because I feel like it doesn't make enough of a difference to my comfort, and I know how annoying it can be to the person behind me. My husband is 6'2" and if the person in front of him reclines the metal tray sides dig into his knees. Even when they're not reclined he's touching the seat in front of him. We usually pay a little extra for the exit row or extra leg room seats.

I'm tall (5'8") and it's alllll my legs, so I HATE when people recline. Because then ME reclining does not really help me, because their seat is now hitting my knees. That's what bothers me.

Also when you have a computer open or a drink out and someone just slams the seat back. Someone sent my laptop nearly flying that way on an Amtrak train once.

Ugh, I wish the seats did not recline.

Well, I don't think it can be an expectation that you will be able to recline your seat. Some airlines don't let you book seats ahead of time, so you may get a seat that doesn't recline. Or like @looch: said, my kid has more of a right to be safe in his car seat than the person in front of him has a "right" to recline their seat. So, no, if your seat reclines back toward me, I don't really mind, but it's more of a plus if you get to recline, not an expectation.

ETA: if you lose your shit over someone reclining their seat into you, you have wayyyyy more personal issues than this simple recline issue! And I hope those people get charged for a crime.

Recline at will. My primary concern on a flight is safety. As long as the airlines deemed the recline position safe, have at it. Now if your comfort interferes with my personal space like your chair or my tray table now touches my knees then we have a problem.

I fly pretty often and I don't always recline (read: I don't need to recline if I'm reading a book and staying awake.) I do recline when I'm going to fall asleep. I don't mind if the person in front of me reclines, I just recline my seat so I get a bit more head space.

People can recline all they want. I would much rather there be more people bitching about the size of carry on luggages, and those that have to punch their oversized carryons into the over head compartment and hold up the ENTIRE plane from finding their seats. Ok, this is a hot topic for me lol.

Uh... But why would they give the option to recline you really shouldn't do it?! It's the first thing I do after take-off! I always just think if I recline, then you can recline too to get away from me and if you don't, then it's your choice! And it's not like planes don't have standards where all seats can only recline to a certain degree! I never thought this is even a point of contention!

Same as Hilsy85. I feel mildly annoyed when people recline but I usually do it too (not that it makes a difference to the person behind me but I do feel a tiny stab of guilt when I do it.)
I think it comes down to so much of the traveling public being completely rude and lacking in manners. The other day I had a man sitting next to me (I had the window seat, he had the aisle) get up and stand in the aisle while he waited for me to deplane first. And also retrieved my bag from the overhead. Honestly I was shocked at how gentlemanly he was cause I'm so used to seeing people get up and stand in the aisles ahead of others seated in front of them as soon as the seat belt sign comes off (and as often as I see that I still don't understand such rudeness).
