@MrsTal: @mrsbookworm: Did y'all know that the companion book, Rose Under Fire, came out on Sept. 19? I haven't read it yet but friends who have say that it's great, albeit very different from Verity.
I've seen Elizabeth Wein speak twice at book signings, and the amount of meticulous research that goes into these books is dumbfounding.

I started "102 Minutes: The Untold Story of the Fight to Survive Inside the Twin Towers" last night. It obviously isn't a light read, but it has really sucked me in. It includes a ton of detail about the buildings and how they really weren't up to code and there was no plan for how to get all of the people out of the buildings. It's been very eye opening so far.

I LOVE threads like this!!! I immediately go to my Amazon app and start adding books to my Kindle wish list. I used to hate finishing books as it's always so hard to decide what to read next, but thanks to a few of these threads, I now have loads of recommendations to choose from!

I'm reading A Dangerous Fortune by Ken Follett right now and am completely hooked. I am a huge Follett fan though and loved every thing I've read by him so far (Pillars of the Earth, World Without End, and Fall of Giants).

Some of my favorites:
The Storyteller by Jodi Picoult. I don't normally read her stuff but this was haunting and so well written.
Maine.
Girl in Translation.
Unbroken. A WWII novel.
Elizabeth Street.
The Kitchen house.
The art of racing in the rain.

Also, I just realized the new show orange is the new black is based on the book!

@mediagirl: Have you ever read Those who save us? It is a WWII novel that I really enjoyed. Also, I'm currently reading Power of One, which is WWII but in S Africa so a different perspective. Finally, since you mentioned WWII and mysteries, I'd also recommend The Redbreast by Jo Nesbo. It's a Norwegian police procedural that involves a WWII backstory. I'm obsessed with Scandinavian police procedurals though, don't know if it'll be your thing. Oh, it's WWI not II, but In Pale Battalions is another good one. sort of a WWI mystery.

@IRunForFun: Really enjoyed In the Garden of Beasts!

I just TORE through the first 2 books in the Divergent series, and am anxiously awaiting the release of the 3rd (like, it's saved in my phone calendar, ha ha). Hunger-Games-esque. And I'm now reading Reconstructing Amelia, which is good - kind of a suicide/murder mystery complete with high school drama!
