@Anagram: I think 20% is their standard sale price. But occasionally specific sets go on sale and then they'll offer extra percentage off sale items. I think that's when they discontinue certain colors.

Pottery barn has a really nice navy blue one with orange accents. It's kind of a paisley patter. If I remember correctly. Posting from my phone now so I can't dig it up. It was on the cover of their fall catalog.

I like to get the plain duvets from ikea and then dress it up with a duvet cover. I've had covers from Pottery Barn, Charter Club (Macys) and Dwell Studio (a super splurge) and I haven't had issues with any of them.

We have bedding from west elm. Including the blanket you show in the second picture. While I've been disappointed in their sheets I am really happy with their duvet insert, the blanket (it's super soft and worn in) and the pintuck style duvet cover.
Just be sure you wait for their bedding sale!

And this one, but its more grey with blue. I actually bought this one and thought it was nice, but my walls were almost exactly the base grey color and just too much grey for me.

I LOVE my Calvin Klein duvets! I have 3 king sized ones and only paid about $125 for each. The 3rd one was actually only $60, so I couldn't pass it up. If you don't need one immediately, I would just keep an eye out for them at Macys, different patterns go on sale pretty often.

My husband's family has a bunch of company store comforters at their cabin that are probably at least 20-40 years old and look like new. They are so nice that I always want to steal them! I've been looking at springing for one for us for Christmas.

@Anagram: for me it's been hit and miss. The duvets I have had are: Target (nice looking but not soft), Bed Bath and Beyond (ripped along the button holes), Ikea (ripped along button holes), Ikea (embroidery came undone after many washes), Ikea (got a little pill-y after many washes), and Ikea (plain and perfect). Haha. As you can tell, I went for look for a while and now I just go for comfort.. right now my favorite ones are the ones with the undone embroidery and pill-y!

Your current - too - hot duvet reminds me of http://www.arhaus.com/search?keyword=duvet The slate color may work for you.

Duvets can be so tricky when it comes to the insert. For our guest bed, I used a gray print duvet from West Elm and stuffed it with a bed-in-a-bag type comforter from BBC because it was the right thickness & warmth I wanted.

@mrs. wagon: any brand recommendations for a duvet cover that's really soft cotton, but somehow still stylish? I feel like I'm either finding good reviews on an ugly cover, or no reviews on a pretty duvet, haha.

@Anagram: I have a lacrosse down comforter from Company Store and it's amazing and has lasted for 7 years without losing its fluffiness. Not sure if that's too hot/thick for you, though they do have different weights (even a 'tropical' one). For duvet covers, I like the one I have from LL Bean because it has the ties in the inside corners so that the comforter doesn't shift around inside. It's just plain because the prints weren't very stylish.

ETA: ditto what @Mrs. Twine: said about Company Store customer service. I had a different comforter order that got lost in the mail, they sent another one, then the first one came a few days later and they told me to keep it. Free comforter! :silly:

@Anagram: I love The Company Store! Their products are generally a good quality. I'm not 100% sold that it's the best value for your money (as in, I think you could get things just as nice cheaper somewhere else, probably), but they have good sales, and I appreciate their customer service.

I love using duvet covers so that you can change out the comforter inside.. thin for summer, thick and plush for winter!

We need a new comforter/duvet for our bed because we both hate the one we bought when we bought our king size bed.

I like the current color--it's a navy blue. But it's way too thick (WAY too hot in summer and even too hot for much of the winter) and the worst part is...even though it was an expensive comforter, it's made out of polyester. =( Which like, sticks to the callouses on our feet or on our dry hands in winter, and we just generally hate it.

So lately, we've been using my husband's old bachelor pad comforter, which is a hideous shade of green and only a queen size, BUT is just the right weight and a supersoft 100% cotton calvin klein comforter.

So now I'm looking for a 100% cotton comforter or duvet cover, that is super soft, in the dark blue/navy color family with a slightly modern look (no florals, no plaid, no totally solids). I saw some at West Elm that looked promising, but they were stiff and rough IRL.

Suggestions? Pictures below are our current hated comforter and the coverlet we liked at West Elm (but that ended up being too rough).
