The Ken Burns Civil War and Baseball documentaries are great if you're into that stuff. Not sure of they're on Netflix.

I just finished watching "Auschwitz: Inside the Nazi State" it was informative, but then I'm currently in a WWII history mode.

@kjpugs: @tlcbaby: Heh I don't really watch many documentaries but decided to poke around on the Netflix site and saw (and added) that one...along with about 20 others, lol.

@jhd: I was just going to say Call the Midwife! @tlcbaby: You should definitely check it out. It is based off of a real midwife's memoirs (although there is some creative license used). Entertaining but interesting. I'm a huge fan. :)

I don't know if it's on Netflix, but *Touching the Void* was an outstanding real-story movie (sort of documentary-like, and it was narrated by the climbers who are the subject of the movie).

If you are into beer- loved the documentary Beer Wars. Also there was one about how films get rated, I forget the name. It's a little racy at some parts but it was SO FASCINATING... it talks about how films get rated and how it's a totally corrupt and non-objective system. I love bizarre documentaries like that!

Netflix has almost all of the "American Experience" PBS documentaries. I love them. Very history focused and you can find one on just about anything. Right now, they've got Henry Ford, Jesse Owens, The Rockefellers, The Panama Canal, The Amish and The Triangle Fire on their homepage. You can watch the most recent online at http://video.pbs.org/program/american-experience/

It is SO easy for me to just watch mind numbing shows while I am home during the day (for the past couple weeks on maternity leave and now with LO).

Anyone have any good recs for documentaries, movies etc. that are actually educational? I've seen most of the food documentaries, but am open to anything else!
