Our next car is going to be a Mazda cx-5. Great gas, mileage, fun to drive, easy maintenance, fairly loaded base model, which I love.

@Bookish: The car seat fits really well in the back. We have the Britax Boulevard, which is pretty big, but there is plenty of space left and I think my LO likes it because she doesn't feel crowded back there. I usually average about 17-19 miles a gallon, but I have a bit of a lead foot, haha. Interrogate away, I'm happy to help! :)

I looked thoroughly into the Subaru Forester and Tribeca. We knew we wanted a third so we ended up with a bigger car but both were amazing and friends of ours love their subarus.

CRV!! Love the nice wide middle console between the front seat, perfect for a bag. Fold down flat back seats, and the back seat spy mirror on the glasses case. And one of the best fuel economy in it's class!

@sweet_p: Oh I'm so glad you posted! The Jeep Cherokee is surprisingly my top pick at the moment. I know you have the Grand, but does your car seat fit well in the back? How's the gas mileage? I'm going to interrogate you a bit since you're the only bee I can find with a Jeep haha

@Bookish: I have the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee and I love it. It's very rugged and handles really well. I would have never thought about buying a Jeep before, but the newer models look great and have a ton of neat features. We were also seriously considering the GMC Terrain, but it was a little smaller than what we were looking for.

We love our Rogue (I think we have a 2010?)! But, I'm wondering if we're just overpackers because after our Christmas road trip with LO and our pup we're feeling like we need something bigger in the next few years. I think we need to learn to pack lighter ;)

I'll side with your husband...we have an 08 tundra double cab truck, and we have 18 mo twins with plenty of room, even on very long trips. I seriously love it :) We had an 05 explorer before that and it was no where near as comfortable. Since we bought the tundra used it was only 22k. The mpgs aren't great like the tacoma, but we tow so we need a full size v8. If you go without 4x4 and get a v6 they may be closer to the taco.

We have a Nissan Rogue and we LOVE It. Like @littleredhairedgrl: it's got a good amount of room but still "feels" like a car - and in fact is smaller (exteriorly?) than my husband's Camry - my car fits better in the garage than his does! We looked into the CRV, Rav4, and Kia Sportage - the Rogue got better gas mileage than all of them (thanks to the CVT transmission), is all-wheel drive rather than 4-wheel drive, and the seats were MUCH more comfortable!

@cmomma17: That stinks! We got a 2014 model so hopefully our batch was okay. Hopefully they will help consumers resolve this the right way ~

We considered Subaru (which my dad is a die hard fan of), Mazda, Nissan & Toyota before going w/ the CRV. I personally don't like Mazda (I had a Mazda3 that was extremely unreliable so it's my personal preference), and DH has had many Hondas before so much preferred Honda over Nissan and Toyota. Plus the Rav4 is smaller than the CRV and we wanted more room.

Side track - I totally want the Nissan Juke for myself tho
