@lizzywiz: I totally understand your frustration. These issues are so annoying ... It's like, you can FEEL fine. Nothing looks wrong, but your body just isn't working as it should.

It sounds like you have a good path to try for now!! Best wishes to you mama!

@birdofafeather: thanks!
@littlejoy: FWIW- 5.4 1/2 138 lbs, so I could stand to lose 5-10.

Wow, you guys are way more cautious than me, and/or have way better insurance/ Dr.s. :wink:

Because what I have been experiencing recently is different than pre-baby, I definitely was on board with going to my midwife, then gyno, then internist to check it out, but having no red flags pop up there, I guess I don't feel compelled to go to another Dr. just yet.

But this is also coming from the perspective of having been diagnosed w/PCOS when I was 13 and no real insight from Western Dr.s since then. My hormones have been so screwed up that I actually had to get a medical release to join the ARMY because my prolactin levels were off the charts when I was 19.
I agree with @littlejoy: that diet and exercise really help and that is how I managed my symptoms for the last 15 years. I have also done acupuncture and herbs, but my usual tricks aren't working. I'll will probably try a naturopath (which I have never done before) if things don't resolve in the next 3 months or so.

I think for now I will try the myo-inositol.

Thanks for the feedback, and if my non- Dr monitored vitamin/supplement use bites me in the ass, I'll come back and let you tell me you told me so :wink:
(really, I will, 'cause it might save someone else the trouble)

I personally wouldn't take suppliments that mess with hormones. Once things are out of balance it can affect every aspect of your health and be impossible to correct on your own. I would find an endocrinologist who can help get to the source of any problems and help you determine what will help.

No to be insensitive, but are you overweight? I have some hormone issues, and the hard truth is that I need to lose about 20 pounds. So much of our bigger hormone picture is really about weight and diet.

My issues are borderline insulin resistance, which can be fixed with eating better and regular exercise. This was diagnosed by a cardiovascular panel done by my doctor.

I'd never suggest starting any supplement (especially one that could have major effects) without being under the guidance of a doctor.

i am using essential oils to regulate my super irregular periods with great success. i was anywhere from 32-44 days post partum (even longer before LO was conceived), and have been using Young Living's Endoflex blend for 5 months and my cycles have been 30-31 days each time. my periods used to be a week and now they're 4-5 days. i'm also looking into adding a natural progesterone serum too. i am moving, but planning on seeing a naturopath once i move to consult more (after already talking to my chiro and holistic dermatoligist who had recommendations for my hormonal imbalances).

I'm not familiar with those supplements, but when I was in my early 20s my hormones were SO out of whack. I was PMSy all the time. I saw an endocrinologist/naturopath who did a urine and saliva sampling and I was diagnosed with a estrogine/progesterine imbalance. She sent out my test results to a lab and I got bio-identical hormone cream which I had to put on twice a day. I cannot even tell you the difference it made. Night and day. My family could tell when I forgot my dose. Just one dose and they could tell. It might be looking into. I really hope you find something that helps you!

I gotta be honest- I'm probably not going to consult anymore professionals before trying out a vitamin/ supplement.
But I hear you- I've already added fitness and diet (in so far as a more PCOS friendly diet) so if the vitamin tactic doesn't help at all, a naturopath would be a good next step.

I'd highly recommend seeing a naturopath so you can get some tests done and get on the appropriate supplements for you.

actually, the first 'diagnosis' was from my midwife, last Spring, saying that it had to do with weaning.
But we are 8 months post the last nursing session, so weaning is definitely done!

@blackbird: well, I went the gyno (May) and then a regular doc (August) because of this. I had an exam and a panel done, but not one that checked hormones- just metabolic, lipids, etc. Everything normal except high blood pressure, which I knew.
They weren't concerned- just chalked it up my previously diagnosed PCOS and aging. It started last February and each month is different, but this month is crazy, so thought I'd check on the supplement options.

Have you had a panel done? I think my main concern would be that something is wrong on a hormonal level that needs to be looked at closer. I would hate to take the wrong supplement and somehow make a problem worse.

I am looking at these-Super Nutrition Women's Blend, 'cause I used their prenatals, but would love suggestions.

Insane PMS is the problem. We are talking 5-10 pounds of painful water weight, night sweats, etc.
