@bees_knees: I haven't read through everything here, but I have kitchenaid appliances in a regular stainless finish and thought I'd chime in in case it helps. They're about seven years old, so I'm not sure if there's anything they've changed in the meantime though. It's a mixed bag on how much ours show. The fridge doesn't seem to show a lot (which is shocking to me because the kids touch it all. the. time.) but the dishwasher shows every drip/finger print/etc. Our microwave stays in pretty good shape, as does the oven/range. I use stainless steel wipes a couple times when I unload the dishwasher, and that takes care of the prints pretty again for a couple days. It's not ideal, but it's really the only appliance I've had those issues with.

@gotkimchi: Thanks! Do you remember if its black stainless with fingerprint shield? I think they just rolled out the black stainless/print shield recently? We're looking at the true stainless color (no Print Shield), and in the store it seemed to show everythinnnnng.

This should not be such a hard decision :silly:

@petitenoisette: @gotkimchi: Do you find the true stainless steel finish of the KitchenAid appliances annoying? I wish they all came in print shield...don't these people have children?! Our appliance guy just said that hardly any mid-upper lines have smudge proof finishes (yet) so we might just have to suck it up. I'm looking at GE profile now too, although we had GE in our last house and I wasn't in love with any of the appliances :bummed:

Love our kitchen aid dishwasher. It just plain works. We don’t have a third rack or zones or anything which I am fine with. I like that it’s relatively simple. . My mom has one with the third racks and all different little types of spots for things and I think it just makes loading and unloading a greater chore. And there are more spots in hers where things don’t seem to fit correctly.

We ended up with a Samsung fridge bc it was the only one that fit in our space and it’s been totally fine so far. Our range is also Samsung and no complaints. But we haven’t had either for particularly long.

The only new appliance we have in our kitchen from when we purchased our house is a Whirlpool Gold dishwasher and I LOVE it. Like others mentioned, it has zone-washing (at least, top-rack only), and it has buttons on top of the door so no kids can start things on accident. We opted specifically not to get a stainless interior finish since I've seen those everywhere and they just get so stained by hard water and detergent that I didn't want to deal with it.
Ours is 6 years old now and we haven't had a single problem. It's quiet, efficient. and all the racks roll smoothly.

My in-laws recently re-did their entire kitchen and have a GE dishwasher - the racks are smaller, they already are really tough to roll in/out, and the stainless interior has constant streaks. You'd think it was years older than ours instead of years newer.

I do love their gas range. It has a large middle area that can be a grill-pan or griddle and it's so useful! I don't know the make/model but that feature is one I'll be looking for when my oven eventually dies and I can justify replacing our current ancient version.

Like @PurplePumps, we also have icemaker problems with our Samsung fridge. It turns out its a really common problem, though I'd hope they'd fix it by now (ours is nearly 10 years old)

Totally a minor thing, but if possible, see if you can test what the alerts sound like. We got a new LG oven recently and it is very musical when it preheats or the timer goes off. It is incredibly irritating and nothing to be done about it. But I'm also the person who didn't buy a car because the turn signal noise drove me nuts so this could just be a personal hang up.

Third rack dishwasher is great and also a quiet one. Our dishwasher is an electrolux and the panel is on the top top of the door so E cant accidentally push a button and run the dishwasher and it's amazing. I also really love my oven with a convection fan, I feel it cooks so much more evenly.

Haaaaaate hate hate my Samsung fridge. Or at least the ice maker in the door that is in the fridge, and not the freezer. It just melts and freezes and never comes out as cubes. The water dispenser is slow and drips. Oh. And the coils in the fridge ice up and make a huge block of ice in the back and then stops the fan.
Basically, I read that if it's a good home and small electronics brand (Samsung, LG etc) stay away from them for appliances. Stick with actual appliance brands like Kenmore, whirlpool, maytag etx

I had GE Profile at my previous house, and we bought the GE Adora line (a small step down) for this house. I've been really pleased with both and would buy them again in the future. They had a Frigidaire dishwasher installed when we bought the house, and we hated it. I've also had good luck with Whirlpool Gold in the past.

We have an induction cook top too and I love it. It feels safer cooking with kids than gas, but much faster than electric. And easy to clean since it's all one piece. Totally worth the cost.

Not sure if it is maybe just how all newer (read: energy efficient) dishwashers are but I hate how long our new dishwasher takes to run a cycle so that is something to check.

Our old dishwasher could run a full wash cycle in 45 minutes. The new one takes almost four hours.

@erinbaderin: Ours was fine the first 6 months we lived here (it was 3ish years old at that point) after that point we have replaced the freon, the main motherboard, the ice maker gets stuck and knocks, and the thermostat on the front is off (so if it says 32 degrees it's more like 34)

I like how it's set up but if we didn't have a home warranty we would have replaced it by now. It's only 6 years old too

@MamaBear87: Huh, I was about to recommend an LG fridge - we just moved and I really miss ours. The ice maker was so much more compact than on our new house fridge.

I can not recommend an induction stove enough. It’s a little annoying because you might need new pots, but it heats up SO QUICKLY. It will bring a full pot of water to a boil in a minute. The stove in our new house is gas and I hate it, waiting for something to come to a boil is torturous.

Get a dishwasher with zone options (just top or bottom rack), a third tray on top (silverware and pieces and parts), and absolute must have with bottles and sippy cups one with bottle jets.

I have all GE Profile and wish I would have got the kitchen aid or Bosch sometimes just because I prefer the look, but have been happy with them. I had Gold Series Whirlpool (kitchen aid is fancy Whirlpool) at my old house and liked them also.

I like the steam clean function on my oven too, because most of the time I am able to get my oven clean with just that and not the full oven clean cycle which takes forever and stinks.

We’re totally renovating our kitchen this month (while I’m 32 weeks pregnant with our 4th baby because we’re insane) and need appliances. Bees always shoot it to me straight, so recommend your appliances (or tell me what to avoid!)

We need:
36” gas range
Electric wall oven/microwave combo (I didn’t even know this combo was a thing?! Is the microwave still easy enough for my kids to use it?! 🤣)
Dishwasher
Refrigerator
Beverage fridge

I’m feeling overwhelmed with all of the possibilities, and we live 4 HOURS from the nearest appliance store 😣 Bonus if we can order these from Costco! :)
