I would say that it's extremely sturdy (she likes to "shake" the bars and they barely move). They can push against the mesh the way you would in a pack &amp; play, but the bars keep the actual structure from moving. She is almost 29" tall at 12 months, and the top of the side hits her about mid-face, so I don't think she'll be climbing out for a while... Bought it used on Craigslist but it had been stored in a basement or something and was a pain to clean all the little nooks. But I liked that we could adjust the shape a little to make it fit in the area we used it in. The basic kit is pretty small but with the 2-panel extension, it's a good size for a pre-walker/early toddler. If you decide to get one, check Craigslist -- I saw several plastic and metal ones there for pretty cheap but DH wanted wood.</p> <p>ETA: we set it on top of one of those foam ABC mats made up of interlocking squares because we have wood floors, so the playpen would slide around a bit otherwise, and also so it was a softer surface for DD. It's portable, folds up like a camping chair (pretty much as small), and you can buy a separate half canopy to use it outdoors.
