More love for the nuvaring, Its all I've ever used other than the mini-pill when breastfeeding.
I love that I have the option to skip periods also just by leaving it in one extra week.

@Mrs. Sunshine: mine did. My periods were overall more unpleasant than usual. For me I have longer cycles and my period is not bad, so it was a reasonable tradeoff, not sure in your situation. My midwife said how each woman reacts varies so it could be your experience would be different. It seems that the heavier periods are pretty universal from what I've heard.

@Mrs. Sunshine: I've been pretty lucky and rarely ever have cramps whether on or off the pill or with the IUD.

@lamariniere: @yoursilverlining: @Revel: did your cramping increase along with the bleeding? My quality of life is very low during my period already. I struggle a lot. I'm nervous about making it worse.

I had a Mirena for about 20ish months between LO#1 and trying for LO#2. I didn't have any issues with it at all - had only one (light) period on it, no spotting otherwise, insertion/removal were not painful. I will definitely get another one after LO#2.

 my Mirena. I had two before TTC and now have my third post baby. It is the most popular form of birth control for women who work in Obgyn.

I have mirena and I like, don't love it. I do love that I don't have to think about it, at all. I don't feel the hormones like I did with the pill. But I had spotting for months after insertion, which was just super annoying. I think I had my first period, but I think I needed one pad, once, and just panty liners otherwise. I've had it for about six months.

I did have fears about IUDs in general, but since we are 99% sure we are done at two, I am more at peace that if something did go wrong, we already have our two kids. Never did anything besides condoms or pull out in between kids and it was annoying.

I had the Paragard copper IUD for 2.5 years after the birth of my first LO. Had it removed a few months ago to TTC. I recommend it with reservations. I love that it has no hormones and the convenience of the IUD. Now that I've had it out though I realize how much heavier it made my periods. I thought that might have just been a change due to pregnancy but it was definitely the IUD. I will probably get another copper one after I get PG and have another LO, although I would consider Mirena. I had unpleasant hormonal side effects on the pill so I'm somewhat undecided.

I've had 2 Mirenas and really like them. No period (some months I get spotting, but nothing that ever requires more than a pantyliner), nothing to think about or remember to do and basically zero chance of an opps pregnancy.

I will say with both, I have experienced a pretty long interim period of breakthrough bleeding for the first couple of months after insertion. With my first, I also had really bad cramps A LOT for a long time, but that was before kids and my insertion experience pre and post kids was completely different. It's not a big deal thinking long term, but just an FYI as a short-term annoyance you might experience (or might not!)

Following! We didn'tdidn't get in anything after DD but after DS if we do go for a third a definitely want a 2-3 ye span, I don't really want BCP as my body I think was effected highly by them!
But IUD a d Mirena scare me....ughhhh why can't there be a switch :silly:

I have the Mirena, but I'm not sure I'd suggest it. It's convenient and I love not having to think about it or get my period anymore. But it's had a significant negative effect on my libido. Much more so than BCP ever did. :bummed:

I'm scared of IUDs. So many horror stories about them here. Prior to pregnancy I was on nuvaring and liked it a lot. Almost nothing to think about, except to take it out after 3 weeks. No daily pill, no dr insertion needed, and no fear of it migrating to where it shouldn't be. Plus, easy to just stop if you decide to TTC.

I'm still a fan of BCP. I've been on Loestrin for years (before and after LO) and my period is nonexistent. I need a panty liner for like 2 days (and quite honestly it's not even a big deal if I don't have a liner). It's brown spotting.
I just set a reminder to take it at like 10pm every night. I'm usually already sitting in bed by then so it's next to me on the night stand.

However, if we have another LO after this next round of IVF, either DH is getting snipped or I'm getting tied.

I have a copper IUD that I've had for nearly 2.5 years.
Pros: no hormones, nothing to think about, extremely effective.
Cons: It makes me have really long, like 7-8 day, periods (compared to about 5ish days without) and the heavy days are really heavy compared to what they used to be.

I *might* consider a Mirena when this one needs to be replaced because the long heavy periods really have an effect on quality of life during those days, but I'm extremely leery of having hormones again. Hopefully I can convince my husband to take permanent measures.

So we've mostly done a combo of pulling out and tracking my cycles, making sure to always use a condom during ovulation and most of the time the other times. That's worked fine for us until recently. We had an unexpected pregnancy that we lost and now I cannot not have constant anxiety. I spent my last period still wondering if maybe I was pregnant. Using condoms 100% of the time still gives me no peace of mind. But I'm a newbie and have never really used any doctor issued birth control before. They all sound pretty scary to me, to be honest, but i need something more effective. I'm leaning towards a copper IUD but I wanted to hear what others like and use as well.
