@PurplePeony: For the most part, you can avoid having the lug a loaded seat around, except for to and from your car at home. I always kept my stroller frame in the car (we have a B-Ready, so the carseat just snapped right in without an adapter . . . you could do the same thing with a SnapNGo frame or any other stroller, like the City Mini), or you can always take LO out and wear him/her in a carrier (which I also did a lot when I was worried about stroller mobility).

Also, I think all car seats are cumbersome and heavy . . . you sort of get used to the weight as your LO grows.

Another vote for the Britax Chaperone. Love that seat, so comfy for LO, so solidly built and super easy to use. I love the no rethread adjustment option and the base with the rebound bar.

@PurplePeony: we went straight to the convirtible. when we went out to eat we just popped LO in the stroller or I would wear him.

We have the B-Safe, and while a bit heavy, I really like it. I ended up not taking it out of the car after 6-7 months. Really, they're all heavy once you put a baby in them. Holding the seat in the crook of your arm helps with the weight of it.

Thanks for the recs so far, although its not making anything easier!

@evansjamie: good to know about the adaptors. I think we might need to decide on the stroller first, then narrow it down to a couple carseat choices and verify whether they'll work.

@runsyellowlites: I thought about going straight to a convertible, since I plan to babywear a lot, but I'm not sure whether DH will or not. And who knows whether the baby will like being worn or not. Also, we like going to restaurants and if we're able to keep doing that, it will be nice to have the infant seat for those times.

@MsLipGloss: I'm kind of worried about the weight of the seats, to be honest, as well as the length of the handles. I'm only 5'2", and the ones I picked up in BRU all felt super heavy, even empty, and almost dragged on the ground when I walked with them. I'm hoping not to carry the baby around in the seat very much for those reasons, among others, but just in case I'm hoping to get a seat on the lighter side...I just don't want to compromise on safety. Sigh.

We have the Britax B-Safe and love it. It fits well in the our Civic and is really solid and secure. We've also used it without the base in my parents' cars without any problems.

We had a Snugride classic. If I had to do-over, i'd get the 35 for the higher height/weight limit.

I was happy with it though. I used it with my City Mini.

We have the Safety 1st Comfy Carry Elite. The weight limit is only 22 lbs, but he's going to hit the 29" height limit first, so weight didn't matter!

@Mrs. Pen: Jealous your 17 month old still fits!! I never thought Xander would be TALL, so I didn't even think to look for something like that!

We had the Britax Chaperone (just transitioned LO to a Clek Foonf) and really loved it. It's a little on the heavier side (approx. 25 pounds), but is rock solid. The Chaperone also has an anti-rebound bar as part of its base.

We had the Chicco & were totally happy with it. Since, I've learned that the only downside is Chicco does not allow for "bracing" (where the car seat touches the back of the front vehicle seats). Since you said you & your DH both aren't very big it may not be an issue but after switching P to her convertible we learned we never actually had it installed "correctly" because it touched the seats. :(

This time we're actually going straight to a convertible. We'll be getting another Combi Coccoro b/c they fit newborns great & we should be able to get 2-3 years out of it before switching to a higher limit convertible. For us, we baby wear since the seats can't go on the store carts & since it isn't recommended for bebes to be in them for long periods of time anyways... We never even used our stroller until P was 6+mths old & could sit it in herself. Plus it gets heavy to lug a bebe & the seat around! lol

I have a Graco Click-Connect SnugRide 35, and while we haven't used it yet, I'm finding that a lot of the jogging strollers with car seat bars aren't compatible with it. For the Bob, I called and I can use the Chicco one, but you might want to talk to customer service at Bumbleride if that's the way you go to see what will fit.

So, I admit that I'm a terrible decision maker and I'm totally lost when it comes to a lot of baby gear. I *think* we will be getting either the City Mini GT (maybe Elite) or the Bumbleride Indie as our stroller, so I want to make sure out infant seat is compatible. But there are a lot that fit the bill and I'm not sure what to do! For now, DH and I share one car -- a Civic hybrid -- and we're both pretty small people so I don't really expect that our LO will grow out of an infant seat super fast, but I'd still like to get one with a high-ish weight limit so we don't need to buy another seat for awhile. It looks like the Graco 35, the Chicco 30, and the Britax seats get good ratings, but what has your experience been? Thanks in advance!
