@Jess1483: I don’t know much about bamboo sheets, I’ve heard they’re soft and breathable, but I don’t know if they pill or wear well or anything. And re down alternative—found this on the wirecutter, which isn’t the final word by any means but is a decent resource. $25?! Can’t beat that. Or, instead of an insert and duvet cover, you could stack two solid blankets, one heavier and one a layering blanket. But that would probably be pricier.

So much great info, keep it coming! I’m super overwhelmed...

Has anyone tried bamboo sheets? I’m intrigued. @LCTBQE: ? What do you know about them?

We have three sets of our sheets, love them! Pure Beech Sateen from Bed Bath and Beyond. They are smooth and super soft and have held up well. 7 years in and one set has a rip on the seam of the fitted sheet but everything else is good as new.

I really love our Wamsutta sheets from Bed Bath & Beyond. The fitted sheet never comes off and the sheets are soft and last many years.

@Jess1483: not a specific set but a feature - get a fitted sheet with the double elastic! I will never go back... Target sells brands with this feature and most high end brands have it now.

@Jess1483: this is my area, I work with textiles and I love nice things :)
Towels: the best I've found are wonderfully not-pricey from Target, Fieldcrest Reserve. (Had to look it up and they're on sale today!) Many friends and guests have asked me what they are and are really surprised that they're so inexpensive. We've had ours for almost two years and they're holding up great.
Sheets: I think what people like in sheets is pretty subjective (ike mattress preference) but I like a crisp, smooth, heavy-weight percale--the best I've found is the percale from Casper, which are super nice quality and the fitted sheet is perfectly snug. I tried Brooklinen and the fabric didn't feel substantial enough for me, but they're still nice. Peacock Alley is a classic brand that you can find at TJ Maxx etc and they're usually really nice.
Bedding: If you like linen for duvets and shams, Parachute and Matteo both are very nice but a little spendy. I've also had stuff from West Elm that holds up decently.
ETA for down comforters that last forever: LL Bean

We have linen sheets, and I love them. Our first set was Restoration Hardware, but they ripped (which, in retrospect, is super annoying. They were expensive! Although they did last, like, five years) so now we have some from Caspar. I like them because they don't have the freezing cold feeling you get from cotton sheets in the winter, but they're not as warm as flannel.

I splurged on Matouk towels that I really love. They are very soft and plush and going strong almost one year in.

I love our Brooklinen sheets! Haven’t found towels I love yet though. We’ve had Restoration Hardware towels and they’re soft and thick but didn’t really hold up that well.

I promised myself when we were done with babes in our rooms (and pregnancy/birth/etc) that we would gift ourselves a new set of sheets and towels. DH is on board, though significantly less excited ;) I’m also interested in a new bedding set (our current one is one he loves but makes me feel like we are still in college). He runs hot, so unfortunately the sheets have to be kind of cool.

So, please recommend if you have a wonderful:
Sheet set
Towels
Bedding set (not so much the design as the feel of it)

I’m willing to invest a bit of money for good quality, but definitely can’t spend crazy amounts.
