We have the Homedics one too. I don't like any sounds but the white noise one and that works with my second.

My oldest doesnt need one anymore but up until like a year ago, she used Cloud B Gentle Giraffe. We used it every night for years before I had to replace the battery. For my third, we recycled and she's using that one now :silly:

Another vote for the Lectrofan. We've had one since DS was born 4 years ago & it still works great.

The soundspa/homedics ones are crap. Went through like 5.
The red rooster ones have good settings, volume, ands longevity .

My favorite is just the Relaxio app. You mix sounds.

I have a PhD in noise machines

Marpac dohms are good if you need some quiet white noise. They are easy and non fussy and look fine

For more intense white noise or to block our a LOT, graduate to the lectrofan. It’s amazing. Also, the lectrofan micro is equally amazing and the size of a plum. And, their customer service is awesome. I emailed them with a problem with one of my travel ones and they had a tracking number for my replacement within 5 min, no questions asked

@periwinklebee: We have 2 Dohms and they are great! I think they get really loud...maybe it depends on the room size you put them in?

Also I think it totally makes sense that DS is sleeping better without you in the room! When we room share it seems like baby will stir, I will wake up, me waking up wakes baby up even further, etc. Repeat. All night long. Haha.

We have a cheap homedics one in my older daughter’s room that works fine for her, but I don’t like it for myself. We have the marpac dohm for my younger one and I much prefer the sound for myself. We also have the portable
Version of the marpac but I don’t like it as much.

That said, I just use a fan in my own room and like that just as much!

We love our Marpac Dohm - I used the same one in my therapy office for years and loved it, which is why we chose it for LO's room. Going strong for 4 years (and the one I used at work was probably 15 years old at least!)

I don't like white noise so I set it on summer night. We've been using it since DS2 was born (he is 2 yo). Both my boys like it.

We have the marpac, but didn’t really use it because LO didn’t need one. I’m holding on to it in case we need one. It can get loud. LO’s Air Purifier has a white noise hum. LO doesn’t even notice it’s on, but the one time recently I put the Marpac on to dull a beeping sound in the house (needed to wait for DH to get a ladder and change out a smoke detector battery) aLO immediately found the Marpac and wanted to unplug. All that to say I would recommend.

I have tried many different white noise machines/setups:
- marpac dohm (doesn't seem that loud to me)
- conair sound therapy (great volume/adjustable, can run on batteries in case of power outage, newer version has a bright light up clock on front that you would probably want to cover over with tape)
- app + speaker - I like this option best because you adjust volume on both the phone and speaker (we use an old iphone and the "relax melodies" app).

Also, maybe I'm mean, but I would tell DH to learn to live with whatever white noise solution I settle on, or enjoy 5a walks with the baby so I can get more sleep :silly:

E uses the marpac hush (the portable one by dohm) for babies. Its small and moves easily which is an added plus, I don't have any experience with anything else though

I like the marpac Dohm original, tried their newer one (whish? Something like that) and hated it. Also have a red rooster sound machine, $15 from amazon, in guest room that has lots of options and volume choices and it seems to work well!

My hubby got me a pictek for Christmas a year ago for our youngest and I love it. I bought a second one so both kids have one. He isn’t a fan of white noise for us, but I am and I play noise for myself on my phone. When we had our kids in our room they would shuffle around at the slightest noise and it really stressed me out. I find these ones loud enough that I can go into their rooms once they are asleep to grab something or replace a stuffed animal. It has some really random sound choices along with standard white noise.

We started with a marpac dohm and liked it, no complaints. But after three years it started making weird noises and seemed a lot quieter. We switched to a lectrofan and love it so much more. It seems to block out a lot more noise and we can adjust the volume easier.

DS is in our room and is easily disturbed by us, leading to regular 5 am wakeups for the day. DH has been away and I've been sleeping on the couch so as not to bother DS, and he's like a different child, sleeping until 6 or 7... Loud white noise seems like it could be a solution, but DH detests our white noise machine and says he can't sleep with it. It's an electronic one (has 18 different fan noises, in an effort to find something DH doesn't hate.) We have a fan on our humidifier that's a bit noisy, but I don't think it's enough.

What kind of sound machine do you use? Manual? Electronic? I'm wondering if manual ones work better, but they're big and expensive so I'm a bit hesitant if it's basically just like the electronic version... We're looking for a house with more bedrooms but in the meantime I just want everyone to be able to sleep! At this point I'm almost tempted to move our bed to the living room and our living room furniture into the bedroom with DS's crib, as I'm desperate for decent sleep...
