I don't have any LOs so I don't know if it's good for babies, but I have a VueZone surveillance system. It's cordless and I can view the cameras from my phone or my computer. I currently use it to check up on my dogs. It was $140 at Costco for two cameras. Oh, there is a $50 a year annual fee for the online access to it, but the Costco deal gives you a free year of it. You can get more cameras, too. The only problem is it uses batteries, so do don't want to stream it for long periods. You can definitely still check up on things. There is a motion detector, too. Haven't needed that feature.

It is just a video monitor. No sound.

I'll probably try it out first whenever we do get pregnant and have a LO to see if it is practical. When I get pregnant, I do want a baby monitor with motion detector so maybe I'll just go with a convenience factor and get a baby monitor that does it all.

This one is $140 plus shipping, it's the one we have and I love love love it! The screen seems like it would be small but it's actually quite large. I have two cameras hooked up to it now and it's working great for us.

@mrsrain: I thiiiink this is the one Bao has. or something very similar. can't beat the price! smaller screen, but IMO that is worth the pan/zoom feature. I could never get the monitor in a spot that got the whole crib (and I was obsessive about zooming in to make sure she was breathing when she was young).

@Raindrop: We'd like to stay below $200

@sorrycharlie: Right now I am leaning towards the motorola mbp33, which is $179 everywhere. I do have a BRU 20% coupon, and it doesn't seem to exclude motorola!

@char54: Which one do you have?

@mrsrain: also, my original plan was to grab it at buy buy baby with a coupon (BRU excluded motorola from their coupons at that point, in 2012). not sure if they still do. I ended up creating an amazon registry (just for myself to see) and bought it with my registry completion discount, and the price was discounted already, and it was a great deal.

@mrsrain: Does money matter? I think any video monitor is fine. When I was expecting I just checked out all the baby flash sales and when a monitor came up I scooped it up! Monitors show up probably a little more than once a month usually.

We have the 3.5 inch Motorola and are also about to buy a whole second one for the next baby. You can just add another camera, but we decided it would be worthwhile to keep one monitor in the kitchen and one in the MB. Plus the original is 2.5 years old and while we have had no problems, I can't imagine it lasting until our next is 3+ We thought we may as well buy one now and enjoy the convenience of two monitors.

We love our Motorola SO much, that we bought a complete second set for the second baby. This way we can be lazy and leave one monitor upstairs and one downstairs.

But yeah, we don't overspend on much, but this is a luxury we can't imagine being without! I have nothing bad to say about the Motorola - it might be nice if I could screenshot the image on the monitor instead of having to take a pic with my phone (because for some reason I just love taking pictures of her sleeping... haha), but that's a pretty small issue.

The Motorola can play music through the camera, which was nice from 6 months - 1 year to soothe her back to sleep when she would wake up and fuss. We can talk from the monitor to the camera, which is helpful now that she's older (15 months) and we can tell her to get back in bed. The camera is pretty great, the range of motion is pretty great, the temperature gauge is incredibly helpful, and the distance range is really good!

DH and I are on the hunt for a video monitor for our nursery. I would love to hear what you have and why you love it! We live in a 2-story condo with a basement, and the nursery is in the second floor, so I would love something that I can use in the basement (laundry) while she is napping.

Baby is due in just over 3 weeks!
