I had a calendar and it came with stickers so you could add them to the specific day like what was mentioned above. At the top of each month was a spot for you to write all sorts of things that happened that month. My plan was to use that to combine all of my thoughts so that I could create a picture book and supplement with what actually happened later. I mean, he's over 2 now so clearly that hasn't happened yet. I'm really hoping to get it done before DS2 comes along this summer!

@Charm54: @spaniellove: Thanks, guys! Your ideas sound like a great compromise between photos only and slaving to fill in tons of pages with writing.

I started with the whole big Carters binder-style baby book and then realized they have the coordinating calendar with stickers you just put on the date for "first tooth", "first smile", etc. If I had anything that indicated the date like a photo or a text I could go back and figure that out. And they have a few pages for cutesy record keeping.

With dd I just printed off a calendar and wrote milestones in there. It was quick and easy. I took pics of the calendars and turned them into a photobook.

With my first, we did a baby book and instead of it being something I looked forward to completing, it was just another thing to do. It went a little overboard with number of pages and stuff to fill out and spaces for photos, blah, blah, blah. I feel bad complaining, but it stressed me out!

Now I'm due with my second in April and I don't want to shortchange him, but I certainly don't want to have such a labor-intensive book. Has anyone found a short, sweet and easy option? I don't want to go the photo book route unless there are options that allow for the record-keeping/milestone stuff. Like, I am a fan of Mixbook for photo books but their baby books didn't include much more than space for photos.
