@tequiro21: Oh, let us know how you like the exergen one. I originally got it through my baby shower registry and ended up returning it after a few of my mommy friends recommended I get a rectal one. I've always been curious as to how well it works!

@NYcalimama: We were looking at an ear thermometer last week and wasn't sure which one to get. We'll take a look at the Braun one. Does it take readings relatively quickly?

Rectal is best for infants. We just use the one our hospital gave us. But for something more long-term, I'd recommend the Braun ear thermometer. Perfect for wriggly babies and infants without too much variance in accuracy compared to other thermometers. I also had the Exergen "swipe the forehead one" (it measures temp at the temporal artery actually), but like one ER doc told me, it's basically a magic wand. You could swipe that thing a few times (with as close as similar swipes possible) and still get a bunch of different readings. We used it in the hospital I worked at, but every doctor and nurse knew it wasn't the most accurate at all and the temps taken from it had to be taken with a grain of salt. You do have to keep the sensor clean for more accuracy and get the swiping technique just right (hard with babies/infants) for best results. For the most part, my LOs don't mind the ear one at all.

We use the vicks rectal thermometer with probe covers. The rectal temp is the quickest and most accurate according to my ped. It's also easy to pack in case you travel and cheap enough that you can have several.

I too really like the Vick's rectal thermometer. Easy to use, fast, can't mess it up (unless you put it under the faucet to clean it, which my husband did).

We have this Vicks rectal thermometer: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0002AHVZ It's pretty fast, seems accurate, and is designed so that you can't insert it too far.

We're using an underarm thermometer and it takes accurate readings but it takes waaaaay too long and LO ends up getting super fussy!

Do you have any recommendations for a good thermometer (brands)?
