@sslm: Tony Luke's is the best overall. Pat's is my favorite between Pat's and Geno's if you're headed down to Passyunk. Don't be fooled by Geno's flashiness

@sslm: I prefer Pat's. Geno's is too flashy for me, ha. I've never personally eaten at Tony Luke's, but I've heard theirs are the best in Center City.

I just got back from visiting Philly for the weekend and my bestie and I had brunch Sunday morning at Green Eggs Cafe at 13th and Locust. Cannot recommend it enough. Nutella Latte and Red Velvet Pancakes. I was heartbroken that I couldn't take my leftovers with me.

Personally I like Steve's the best, but they're more in the north east... I'm related to Tony Luke so a little biased towards his... Of Geno's & Pat's I prefer Geno's (American Wit)

@sslm: Sorry for getting back so late! My SIL's family (they're from South Philly) love Born Yesterday on 19th and Walnut. Though it's pricey, I have to say that my nephew is the best dressed person in our families! Plus, it's fun to look. I also just read this article on phillymag.com:

@sslm: The Westin is in Liberty Place which is right in Center City on 16th and Chestnut, very walkable to so many other things. Rittenhouse is on 18th and Walnut...and there are so many good places to eat surrounding both of those areas. And it's a nice hotel!

And if you're really into walking, you can go up the Ben Franklin Parkway, around the Art Museum, and there's a trail that takes you right by the river. You can see the other side of Boathouse Row from there.

Walnut Street has nice shopping of more expensive brands, but there are also so many little boutique shops as well. And I'm not sure how late in November you're going, but the Comcast Center has a holiday show that they put on beginning after Thanksgiving that runs every hour. Even if you're going earlier in November, their big screen in their lobby is cool to check out. That's on 17th and JFK Blvd.

I used to live in Rittenhouse Sq. It's the nicest part of the city and I'd recommend staying there if you can! There are lots of shops and restaurants around. It's been awhile so I won't bother trying to recommend restaurants (since there are probably better ones there now), except Monk's which has a special place in my heart because it's where DH and I had our first date. It has great Belgium beers, burgers, and mussels.

Definitely don't bother walking to the stadium. There is a train that goes right there and it's much easier and faster.

Some of my favorite places to visit when I'm back in Philly are Reading Terminal Market and the Franklin Institute.

Rittenhouse is just west of city hall and still considered "center city"
If your looking for bar/pub I love McGillins - Oldest bar in the city! Est in 1860's (13th and Sansom), Fado (15th & Locust) For Trendy - Continental mid town (18th & Chestnut) or any Steven Starr or Jose Garcias restaurants. Quick eats there's Shake Shake, Chickie & Pete's or you can head to any of the cheesesteak joints (Geno's, Pats, Tony Lukes) oh and you must go to Reading Terminal Market

@sslm: Anything in Rittenhouse! I recently ate at Vernick, and it was delicious. Devon Seafood is also great, but anything along Rittenhouse - Parc Bistro, Rouge, Lacroix...yum, yum, yum! They are a bit more expensive, but if you can get a table by the windows, it's fun to people watch!

For lunch, make sure you hit up Reading Terminal Market. It's on the other side of City Hall, but definitely walkable from Rittenhouse. It's a must when visiting Philly...

I definitely wouldn't recommend walking from Center City to the stadium. The area's not bad, but I wouldn't do it myself, and I've got a pretty thick skin when it comes to that kind of thing.

I'm going back to Philly this weekend and staying at the DoubleTree. It's right on Broad St, across the street from a subway stop, and within easy walking distance of pretty much everything you'll want to see - Rittenhouse Square, Washington Square West, Ben Franklin Parkway, and even Old City is just 12 blocks.

Rittenhouse Square area is super nice. It's by far one of the ritzier parts of Philadelphia, and is absolutely beautiful with the park right there. I don't know as much about Penns Landing, but I do know that it's in Olde City which has a ton of charm. You could also stay in Center City, which is about a 5 block walk from Rittenhouse Square. I've stayed at the Loew's before, and it's beautiful.

As for walking to the stadium, I'd advise against that. You won't be walking through super horrible areas, but they aren't nice either. I've walked down Broad Street before from Center City when the Phillies won the World Series, but there were a ton of people around the entire way, and I wouldn't do it on a normal basis. It's a very quick subway ride down the Broad Street (or Orange) line. You can get on at City Hall and take it South to Pattison (or I think they call it AT&T Station now). So quick, and you'll see a bunch of other people along the way that you can follow to the stadium!

hi from philadelphia! Rittenhouse would be my recommendation. I would not walk to the stadium if anything take the broad street subway line from city hall to the stadium, you'll be with a lot of the people going to and from the game and its much safer and only cost $2. Rittenhouse has great restaurants, bars and shopping and you can walk to the historic stuff, museums, and other parts of the city much easier than if you were at penns landing
