@avivoca: Yeah, prewash is on medium setting but the main wash is on large setting. I'm using 1.5 cups of F&C detergent with borax and oxiclean in the main wash. Half a cup of F&C in the prewash. I do have moderate hard water so the borax should help that.

I have a couple BG Freetimes and lots of BG 4.0s. I prefer the 4.0s. I think they fit DD better. I don't mind stuffing them.

@avivoca: Yeah, I'm not sure what it was. I was using BG newborn diapers and the wash was fine. It wasn't until I started using the OS BG pockets and freetimes that I noticed that they weren't getting clean. They were brand new, too.

My sister-in-law is a cloth diaper guru. She has tried them all and prefers diapers that are made locally, but have an online business. Nicki's diapers. They are one size and have snaps all over the place to get the right fit. They have pocket (which she preferred) and AIOs). They have both velcro and snap versions, we got her hand-me-downs.

We use mostly BG (pockets & freetimes) with a few Rumparooz pockets. I bought a few 4.0s (pockets) and freetimes before she was born so I could figure out which we liked better. I fully expected to love the ease of the freetimes, but we ended up with mostly pockets because the freetimes rarely fit snug enough around her legs. She's always hovered around the 50th percentile, but she's not THAT skinny. We've finally been able to comfortably incorporate our freetimes into the usual rotation once she turned 14-15 months or so.

We love our BG and Rumparooz, though DH finds the Rumparooz more difficult to put on (they are stretchier and you have to pinch and pull a little to get a good fit - I don't have issues with it).

@bluestriped bee: I found that I had to strip my microfiber anytime I started to notice a stink. I smelled them right after they came out of the wash usually just to make sure there wasn't any barnyard smell going on.

Applecheeks and Thirsties I believe have pockets that unstuff themselves in the wash. So that saves a step. I would have a few pre-stuffed for DH or daycare and then I would stuff myself when I did changes.

Not sure if it was mentioned but pockets are much easier to maintain (less wear) and dry faster than AIO.

I used Grovia as well. The fit was nice (very trim but a low rise). But there was just a lot of spots for poop to get into and it seemed hard to add absorbency.

@danda: Thanks. Good to know. I went to Costco last night and they didn't have the Tide Free and Gentle but had Arm & Hammer Free with Oxyclean. I think I do need to strip and start from scratch to remove any of the buildup that is on it now.

@bluestriped bee: I had some concerns over diapers not getting clean enough and tried Tide Free and Gentle (liquid since there isn't an HE powder version), and I think it caused my leaking/repelling problems! I've been using Tide Ultra Stain Release Free and it has been great.

We used BG Freetimes exclusively so I can't speak to other brands. During my pregnancy I slowly built up a stash by buying them during cotton babies 2nd sales ($12-13 each) or with coupons from buy buy baby ($15-16) We had a stash of about 30 which was enough to send 6 diapers to daycare each day and to wash half my stash every 2-3 days. We started using them at about 10 weeks and continued to use them until she turned 2 (27lbs). unfortunately, at that point the amount she was peeing was just to much for the diaper to handle. We used a top load washer and Tide Free and clear powder. we never had an issue with them stinking or staining. We never sprayed or swished I used liners (osocozy large) when she started solids.

Another vote for BG. I love the brand. We have 4.0s and stuffing is no big deal-like 30 seconds a diaper. But if I wanted AIO I would get free times.

@petitenoisette: I went back to edit my comment, but I can't, as it's been too long. I actually use Thirsties hemp inserts, not Thirstiest! Autocorrect! They come in a small and large size. The large size I have to fold down a little, and I am on the second largest snap setting on the Freetimes. The small are slightly less absorbent because they have less material, but last all night, and fit better for the smaller settings.

@lady baltimore: I know you didn't ask me, but I unstuff our RAR pockets when I'm tossing them in the wash. I always wash my hands after regular baby laundry anyway, and it doesn't gross me out. I know you can probably unstuff them before you put it in the diaper pail, but I always have baby on the change table or underfoot then. LO often follows me into the bathroom when I am dumping the poop after changing him, so it's one less step I don't have to do then and there.

@avivoca: @DesertDreams88: @bluestriped bee: @Mrs. Lion: @petitenoisette: When do you unstuff your pockets - before you put them in the pail/bag, or when you're doing laundry?

We have to return our newborn rental (Kissaluvs fitteds and Rumparoos covers) soon, and I am starting to experiment with the assortment of AIOs, prefolds, and pockets I have accumulated. The Kissaluvs are so simple, and everything else just seems complicated (especially with a DH who is balky).

I'm another vote for bum genius freetimes. Very easy to use, very easy to wash, and they dry quickly. We also like prefolds with thirsties covers. DH was nervous about them at first, but in the end he preferred them to the AIOs.

I bought several styles of AIO's including "cheapies". Our favorites by far are BG freetimes and Thirsties. My second favorite is happy flute cotton bamboo. You can get them cheaper through a co-op. They're super soft and insanely absorbant. http://www.happyflutestore.com/products/happy-flute-charcoal-bamboo-all-in-one-cloth-diaper-butterflies

ETA: most of my thirsties are from the outlet and it's a great way to save money. Not sure why they're "outlet" diapers bc the ones I have a lure perfect!

I have 6 BM freetimes and I think 7 pockets. I also tried out a couple g diapers and I have 3 kawaii baby diapers. I tried to love the g diapers but the snaps left nasty marks on my babe and they started to leak as did the kawaii.

So now I'm just using the bumgenius diapers; I actually love having a mix of the convenience of AIOs and then the faster drying times of the pockets like @Mrs. Lion: mentioned. My stash isn't that big but we do sposeys at night and when diaper rash present so it's plenty, I probably wash them twice a week? If she didn't seem to get a diaper rash at least once a week I'd prob wash them every other day but it'd still be enough to do that.

Anyway, I am happy that I'm down to just the two styles but still like having each for their particular benefits.

@bluestriped bee: @PawPrints: Do either of you have a recc for hemp inserts? I looked one day on amazon but was overwhelmed ha. I'm not happy with how many sposeys we're going through these days so want to try cloth at night again.

We have a stash of 24: half Rumparooz pockets and half BG Freetimes. The RAR are strictly for daytime use and the BG we use day and night; for nighttime we use a Thirstiest hemp insert, but just place it on top of the two flaps, no tucking needed.

I am on maternity leave, so I do most of the laundry now, but DH has stuffed and folded diapers on occasion. It's really easy. We prep all diapers after they dry and put them in the drawer for use. For wipes, we use Applecheeks (my fave) and Prince Lionheart Warmies.
