Smoothies with coconut milk and/or coconut oil ... I'd also suggest a high-quality probiotic (Klaire Labs is really great).

Yeah my son almost always has a "growth spurt" a week or so after he's sick where he eats a TON. Just feed him what he likes to eat and he will take care of it. We let our son have a few more treats after being sick and he eats seconds of his meals and it's great!

As long as you have food available and are regularly offering without limitation, I think that's all you need to do. His body will eat what it needs to eat to get back to healthy place. I don't think you need to go out of your way to offer high fat/high calorie options.

@travellingbee: with my kids they usually gain back weight quickly. They just naturally seem to eat more. So instead of just seconds they'll have thirds etc.

Maybe some smoothies with coconut oil blended in if he can drink out of a straw?
Peanut butter toast?
Just make sure you counter the dairy with some fiber so he doesn't get constipated. A lot of the weight loss might be just from dehydration, so I'd imagine he'll gain a bit back quickly when his fluids get balanced.

DS2 (14 months) had an epic stomach bug over the weekend and we think he lost about 3 pounds. We were so sad that his little chubby tummy looks so slim now. :( I want to fatten him back up. He doesn't care for avocado but he does like cheese and milk so I've been trying to get a lot of those in him. Should I try pediasure or anything or just let nature take care of it?
