Oh and another thing my doctor said is people underestimate the amount of internal manipulation etc with laparoscopic surgery because the scars aren’t very big. He compared it to an egg. Like the shell looks fine but everything is scrambled inside. Hope you have a smooth recovery!

I also had a laparoscopic appendectomy and the abdominal pain was worse than I expected. I didn’t have any babies at the time but I imagine it would have been at least a week or two before I could easily pick up a child—it felt like I had to build my abdominal wall back up from scratch. Not excruciating pain but definitely noticeable and impaired my movement.

I had a laproscopic appendectomy in May. I actually posted in here looking for experiences because my recovery took longer than I expected. Maybe my expectations were a bit too high (at first I was thinking I’d go back to work a couple days later 🤣). It took me two full weeks before I was like 80-90% better. I took two weeks off work but I’m a nurse and I’m on my feet for 12 straight hours. I couldn’t have gone back any earlier.

I took the rest of the week off plus the weekend so hopefully that gives me enough time. Thanks for reassuring me that this won't be the most awful ever.

I didn't have laproscopic surgery but did have an ablation that involved catheters up my femoral artery. I was unpleasantly surprised at how much the insertion points hurt, I have a high pain tolerance and was mostly couch bound for 3 days because they hurt so bad to move. Not sure if laproscopic insertion points are the same, but I wish someone had told me how much they would hurt.

Good luck! I hope the findings are easily fixed

Pretty much what she said. My gas pain was by far the worst of it, and it was mostly up in my shoulder.
Right after the surgery my bladder didn’t “wake up” from the anesthesia, so I had to keep the catheter in overnight, but it wasn’t a big deal.

I had it, and as I recall the recovery was pretty easy. My doctor had me take a full week off work but by day 3 I was feeling pretty good and by day 4 I think I was at the mall. I feel like for the first two days I had some shoulder pain from the gas but it wasn’t awful - I just kept thinking “why does my shoulder hurt?” It was like I’d slept funny. Good luck!

I am having a diagnostic laparoscopic surgery tomorrow to hopefully get to the root of abdominal/pelvic pain I have been having. I haven't had abdominal surgery since I was 9 so my memories of the recovery are mostly of only wanting to eat sour cream and onion potato chips and the fact that they put bandages on my stuffed reindeer that came to the hospital. So anyone who has had laparoscopic surgery what does recovery look like? Are the gas pains as terrible as I've heard?
