@Rainbow Sprinkles: would you be open to a homeopathic? I used to get them like once a month too. I switched to a homeopathic after nothing else worked and I haven't had one since.

The remedy I used (found in grocery stores) was staphysagria. You dissolve two tablets in 4 oz of water, don't shake but succuss the bottom of the water bottle and then take a teaspoon every hour.
Homeopathy aims to treat the whole person, so since my UTI's were from sex, that's why staphysagria worked for me. Read this and see if your symptoms meet the descriptions for the homeopathic section:

Agree with making sure they culture you. They will often give you an rx for the most common bacteria (ecoli) and send you on your way. Last time my symptoms only sort of decreased and the culture found I actually had 2 kinds of bacteria, the second of which was less common and required a different antibiotic.

Also, do you eat much sugar? Bacteria eats sugar as a food source. If you eat a lot of it, it gets in your urine and makes a lovely home for them to flourish. I've had less issues since I started restricting my sugar + taking azo cranberry twice daily. Makes my bladder rather inhospitable for bacteria apparently.

I have had them since the 3rd grade. Eventually I was hospitalized with a systemic infection. After that I saw a urologist and I had to have surgery to fix the tube between the bladder and the kidney. It could be worth talking to your doctor about seeing a specialist if it continues. Sometimes they can do a culture to see what antibiotics the bacteria are resistant too ( the more you have the more likely it is for it to be resistant to past medications) then prescribed a medication.

I have IC as well. Talk to a urologist about it. I was trying to self medicate a UTI with cranberry juice and emergen c after antibiotics failed and was in sooo much pain I could barely walk to the doctor. It's not a good diagnosis and I hope you don't have it. But if you do, it's good to know how to treat it and prevent "flares."

I immediately thought of interstisial cystitis like @Torchwood: mentioned. I have IC and before I started treating it, I thought I had UTIs all the time. It's an autoimmune thing, which would make sense that it stopped during pregnancy.

Have you actually had urine cultured? That takes a few days. The urine dip sticks will only show blood, which is a hallmark of IC, and nitrates. I was only showing microscopic amounts of blood but getting prescribed antibiotics without urine cultures. A urologist finally did culture it and guess what? No bacteria grew which should have happened with a true UTI.

I had terrible ones after a kidney infection. Antibiotics seemed to just make the episodes closer together despite providing short term comfort. The last couple of months I had 3 in each month. They were so bad I'd get fevers and wee blood. I was desperate so looked up natural remedies and tried goldenseal. It is amazing, works as fast as antibiotics and now if I get an inkling that one might be brewing I just take one dose and an extra the next day to be sure. I am now nearly two years without one.
Word of warning though, do not take them with opioid pain killers, you will be out of it and then throw up, a lot!!

I was having a lot of uti's, but I was getting negative results when doctors tested my urine. My mom mentioned interstitial cystitis. I never talked to a doctor about it, but one thing I happened to read was that cranberry could actually make it worse, so I stopped all cranberry. I haven't had one since. It doesn't make ANY sense, but it's the only change I made, and it seems to have solved it.

I used to get UTIs pretty frequently. Something that helped me was peeing directly after sex. I very rarely get a UTI now, like I think I have only had one since starting this habit 2 years ago.

I used to get them all the time, so much that I was on low dose antibiotics for years. I take crandophilus (acidophilus combined with cranberry supplement) and it seems to help. But yea, they suck, I'm sorry :(

A few years ago I started to get frequent UTI's, probably one a month minimum for about a year and half. I ended up going to a urologist who did a scope of my bladder. When they do the scope, they also look at your urethra. They found my urethra was a little narrow, so they inserted a balloon that stretched it out a little. I haven't had a UTI since. They said if I get them again, to come back and have the procedure done again. It was quick and painless at the time. It hurt extremely bad to urinate after for about a day. You could look into that, apparently it's quite common. I'm wondering if they went away while you were pregnant as there was additional pressure on your bladder/urethra to maybe stretch it? I dunno, everything seemed to get bigger during pregnancy haha.

You can also try and take cranberry capsules daily as well as extra vitamin C. I took about 2000mg a day before the procedure. This keeps your bladder 'acidic' and helps keeps away the bacteria.

@Rainbow Sprinkles: do you wear thongs normally but not when pregnant? I've heard that thong wearers are more prone to UTIs, because the thing rubs against the anus (sorry gross I know) and then can move around and somehow get microscopic bits of decal germs near your who jaw which I guess can get to your urethra.

Okay so that was super graphic. If not thong use, dehydration? Soaps in the shower that get too close to the V?

Those are the only things I can think of, sorry.

Aw I'm sorry, they really suck. I used to get them a lot but haven't in a while. I guess the only thing I can think of is maybe consult a naturopath? They would look at your health as a whole and maybe have some good suggestions... Hope you feel better soon!

The year before I got pregnant with DD1, I had a LOT of UTIs in one year. I have been getting them since I was 16. I didn't have a single UTI while I was pregnant, and then had two before I got pregnant with my second. Now, at four months PP, here we are again. I had a UTI two weeks ago, finished my round of antibiotics (a strong batch that I was told to take four times a day), and I woke up today with severe symptoms yet again. I'm in so much pain!

Does anyone have experience with this? Any resources? I am at my wit's end!

ETA: I follow all the usual "precautions;" peeing/washing after sex (which I'm not having these days), drinking lots of water, cranberry supplements, etc.
