I used the tea, and drank it NON STOP, not the 3 times a day or whatever they tell you to.

I love red raspberry leaf tea. I buy it at Whole Foods or get it on amazon (cheaper). I used it for menstrual cramps before becoming pregnant. I have keep on drinking it because my midwife give me the ok.

If you're not a fan of the taste you can add a mint tea bag or honey.

@volksgirl64: I have read that it doesn't bring on labor any sooner, it just strengthens your uterus, making you a better pusher. It is said to shorten the second stage of labor because your pushes are more effective. I heard you should actually drink it during labor!
after birth, you can keep drinking it because it encourages milk letdown.

My naturopath said that its good for Womens health even when your not pregnant, and can help with problems like menstrual cramps and breakthrough bleeding.

@LAGS Just found it at my grocery store today(giant eagle) it was in the pharmacy section with a bunch of other health related teas. I started out looking in the organic section but there was nothing. This was in the section with vitamins and supplements. I don't know if this will help? I also read that it may be carried at some gnc stores.

@LAGS: are there any health food markets near you? Or supplement stores (you would probably be able to find the capsules there).
I bought mine in the health foods section of my grocery store. It was with all the teas that were for colds or had other medicinal purposes.

I've had no luck finding any tea at my local grocery store. Plenty of Raspberry... but of course! No raspberry leaf. I've checked a few stores and looked through the organic sections and they have everything but :(

Not to hijack, but does anyone have any recommendations on where to find, or should I just order through Amazon?

@aunt pol: yeah I had heard that too, so I asked my midwife about it and she said it was perfectly fine to drink it. I trusted her more than what I found on the internet. She didn't go by half of the "don't do this" out there. She told me I could dye my hair, go to the salon, eat unpasteurized cheese/milk etc... so I listened to her :)

I've been drinking the tea because it's what my grocery store had. I thought it might taste nasty, but it's not! Not as strong as black tea and really good with honey or agave nectar.

Ok, I found my source. I just read it in Better Birth by Lareen Newman. It's an Australian book but that shouldn't matter.

The book says to take two 300 - 400 mg raspberry leaf tablets three times a day from week 32 on. Or if you want to drink the tea, start with one cup of tea per day three weeks before baby is due. The next week, have two cups of tea per day, and the third week 39 weeks) drink three cups per day until birth.

I just read somewhere (of course now I can't remember where) that if you're taking the capsules, you should start taking them at 32 weeks and continue through the end of pregnancy. If you're drinking the tea, I think you start at 36 weeks maybe with 1 cup a day, then move to 2 cups a day at 38 weeks and then 3 cups per day or more if you hit 40 weeks. Those dates could have been 34, 36, and 38 weeks though - I can't remember.

Either way, whatever I was reading definitely said to start taking the pills earlier than drinking the tea and you should increase your tea consumption in stages rather than jumping full in with 3 cups per day.

I'll keep looking for where I got that info to see if I can find a reputable source rather than just being 'some dodgy girl on the internet who said to do X' :-)

I liked the tea, started it at 38 weeks, delivered at 39 weeks 1 day. Noticed I felt more crampy, but not sure if it was the tea or getting closer to delivery.

I actually drank this tea throughout my whole pregnancy! I had heard some people say it's supposedly not safe, but my midwife encouraged it.

I loved it, I drank it nearly every day. It's yummy, I usually added a little raw honey too.

I also made it as "iced tea" too, brew a big stock pot, then keep a jug in my fridge.

Oh that's a good idea. I never got the concept of regular iced tea myself- don't drink tea or coffee- but I'd imagine it could be nice enough with honey, quite refreshing. Will have to check the boxes in the health store and see which gives more bang for the buck.

I wonder if the actual amount of raspberry leaf (I think they measure it in milligrams) is different between tea/capsules.

I heard the tea tastes okay if you put sugar in it and it's better iced! @aunt pol:

Good question Daredevil, I'm planning on starting it soon myself. I think I'd go for the tea, but then if it tastes rotten I'll wind up with the capsules anyway... I have no idea if there's a significant difference between the two, although it seems reasonable to assume you'd get more of the active ingredients by swallowing the caps?

I am going to start the tea regimen tomorrow. At 37 weeks and a few days, I feel like I am a bit behind and should have started earlier.

Does anyone know if there is a difference between the tea and the capsules? Is one better than the other?
If you have used either, what was your experience?
