Update.

Tried a few different fast flow, slow flow nipples and bottles.

Most success with avent silicone spout/mouthpiece sippy cup, zero success with silicone playtex drop-ins (fast flow or slow).

Ended up going back to original bottles we'd used pre-rejection and she took it (pumped breast milk, then later in the day, formula).

She was in her bouncy chair for one, facing the TV. The other we were at a hockey game, lots going on, downed it like a pro. Let her bf before bedtime, and she's down now. Feeling very happy with success we had today, going to try again tomorrow 1-2 times.

We're having a similar experience. She refuses bottles flat out (never used to though) and now sometimes refuses me and I freak the eff out because how else am I supposed to feed her? She looks like a little doll as it is, girl needs some meat on her bones! We have other factors at play though such as her harness, shallow latch and a now weakened supply for me thanks to all this. I'm gobbling lactation cookies and on doperidome to try get this milk machine back up and running : ) Hope your LO starts guzzling again soon : )

The only suggestion I have is to try all different types of bottles. Your pediatrician might have bottle samples. Otherwise you might have to just invest in a few and see if he/she likes a certain type of nipple. Do you have an LC you can talk to?

My LO goes through phases where she eats more or less. Try not to worry. My MIL described it well when she said "some days you are more hungry then other days so the same goes for her"!

Maybe try a different bottle? LO hates Avent bottles, but eats just fine from Playtex Ventair.

No advice on the rest. Sorry!

SAME HERE:)
LO used to take about 24oz since he was 8 weeks old. He is now 16w old and nothing has changed.
He sometimes only takes about 20oz a day. It is very weird. Still a hefty guy and no mood changes or illnesses either. I think their appetite just dips sometimes.
He went a week once, only taking 3 bottles (5oz each) a day. I thought for sure something was wrong. He didn't lose weight nor was her sick. He just does that a lot sometimes.
Sometimes he will reject a bottle unless he is STARVING...and then take it. Last night he did this too.
I'd say its normal? But of course at your 4m appointment, i'd mention it. I plan on mentioning it although I would assume it is probably OK.

@banana: Would it be reflux on and off? I don't think I understand reflux and feel like it gets thrown around as something that's wrong with babies so often, sometimes too often!

@JessLC: I hope it's just a phase. I don't work again until October, so don't have a "forced" reason for her to get on bottle, but almost wish I did!!!

so i went through a week where LO was just not feeding as much as normal and i stressed and stressed about it, but it went back to normal after a week. so hopefully it is just a phase for your LO.

re: bottle rejection...my LO has been rejecting them since 6 weeks old. screaming for 2 hours, to drink 2 oz (which really just dripped into her mouth and she was forced to swallow it because she was reclining). i just started back to work part time yesterday and my mom was with her. LO drank 6 oz all day while i was gone, then nursed for 2 hours when i got home. today, my mom is feeding her the bottle again and she is getting better at it. some progress but still cries before she drinks. for bottle stuff, i would just keep trying to offer for every feeding. my mom sings and rocks/bounces her while she feeds her. my plan is to just give her the bottle during the daytime hours when she is with my mom and then nurse when i get home. she will be starving the first day and maybe the second day, yes, but my LO survived and so did i.

not sure if that helps your situation at all, but that was what has worked for us so far.

ETA: i spoke to my LC when she was just not eating much, and the LC said it was fine. if there are no medical problems, baby will eat when she is hungry. she also said they get more efficient, so maybe your LO is drinking more at her feeding times and just doesn't need the extra feeding session?

Could she have reflux? My son had reflux when he was an infant and he would reject bottles/nursing too. He wasn't super fussy or anything. He just didn't seem to want to eat.

Just hoping I am not alone here......

LO is 3.5 months. Born 9lbs 1oz and gaining weight steadily/appropriately.

She is (in the last month) rejecting bottles (tried fresh breastmilk, defrosted breastmilk, formula) the last full bottle she took was January 6th. Everything since then (haven't tried since mid-Jan) was a fight of a few oz's).

She also is rejecting me at times, we used to feed when she woke (usually around 8am), 11am, 1pm, 4pm, 7pm (bedtime) and then again 4am. If it fluctuated it was always 5x a day, 1 x through the night.

Mid January she started rejecting me and went to 4x a day (8am 11am 3pm, 7pm), and now I'm finding 4x is tough. Sometimes I can get her to eat 4x a day but at least two of the sessions are awful nurse sessions (usually the 11am she either rejects or nurses awfully, and then the 3pm she does whatever she didn't do at 11). She burps and spits up sometimes, sometimes not at all, this is something that's never changed (with exception to yesterday where she spit up the entire meal each feeding, today back to normal, thankfully). But I offer her the breast as routine as I can, or when it seems like she wants it to try to get a "normal" amount of feedings in, but she rejects the breast.

I did try early/mid-January to quit bf'ing, I could totally go without it, would happily switch to formula, but apparently she dictates all of this right now (ha!) and I deal.

She is her happy self, no fever or anything that seems "off". I feel like she is not getting enough, but struggle with the saying "if she's hungry, she'll eat" and feel like she would take it if offered, but she's refusing me for what I feel like is the appropriate amount of feedings.

I would love (l-o-v-e) to get her back on a bottle (whether it be breastmilk or formula), especially the bedtime one so I can get away when DH gets home from work or *gasps* he and I could go out to dinner/out for the evening before her last meal of the day. I know if I do get her on a bottle it may not be able to be that feeding, it may have to be an earlier in the day one, and then work toward end of day.

I feel like I'm stuck. Can't quit bf'ing and I want to, but can't get her on a bottle either to at least get a break from bf'ing. She took the bottle (Avent) like a pro in Nov, Dec and early Jan.

Any suggestions? We see doctor February 20th for 4 month check up and shots, and I will be interested to see where we're at by then.
