I do this to other people's babies! Not nearly as much with my own but when I'm talking to other moms about theirs, I almost always refer to them as 'Baby A' or whatever. I think it's cute, like a term of endearment.

Yeah, I call our my Baby F___ often (to my students and some other adults). It started because he shares a name with a family friend and we were distinguishing between the two. It doesn't bother me to hear other people do it.

I freaking hate it when people refer to their kids as Baby Name or Monkey or Muffin or Peas or whatever the fuck nickname they give them. GAH. I have no idea why it bothers me so much. They have a name, use it!

But E is Baby E to our little nieces and nephews, though. But *I* don't call her that. My niece is only 4....

I call my baby Baby Quinn but that's because she's still a fetus inside of me. So technically I'm still wrong lol. I think I will stop shortly after she is born. But it kind of just comes out! It doesn't help that DH always says "Baby Quinn, it's your daddy!" When he talks to my belly. I gotta make a concerted effort to not be one of those annoying moms.

Well, I'm glad to see this isn't the norm at least! I don't mind the generic reference to 'the baby' but it just grates on my nerves when every reference is to Baby Susie*! When you're talking to adults, just refer to her as Susie already! Sigh, maybe I'm just a mean person that this annoys me so much! :silly:

*name changed for obvious reasons

I don't really personally get it, but it also doesn't bother me. My husband had a cousin who is still known endearingly as"baby first name" even though she's in her 40's.

My friend refers to her (actual, ie 4 months old) baby as Baby A, and so do we (call Baby A, Baby A). But she called her first son Baby R until Baby A was born. R was 2 at the time. I have said I will likely call Baby A "Baby A" when he's an adult.

I am guilty of referring to my 2 1/2 yo as "the baby"... she's really not. But when talking to people who don't know who she is (ie adults at work), do you say "the toddler"? Guess it's just force of habit...

Hm. No I don't call her Baby ___ when talking to other ppl and that is sort of annoying. But I do call her baby when talking to her. Like "hey baby whatcha looking at?" or I call her "baby girl" a lot. But only to her.

This makes me think of The League and how everyone refers to Ruxin's kid as "Baby Geoffrey" even though he's like 3 now, haha. For some reason it doesn't seem weird on that show, but I feel like if my friends did that, I'd find it wicked annoying!

I voted "Don't really care," but this reminds me of an aunt I have - she did this so much that we still jokingly refer to her son as "Baby Brian" even though he's 24 and six feet tall!

Does this annoy anyone else? I have a SIL who always, and I mean always, refers to her almost 1 yr old as Baby ___ regardless of her audience. I find it so strange when she is talking to adults and refers to her as Baby ___, or when she writes emails/FB posts and always signs them with Baby ____. I can understand prefacing it with the Baby when speaking to another small child, I do it with DD1 occasionally when talking about DD2, but never when talking to adults.

Does anyone else do this? Am I the only one who finds this annoying? I will admit, I don't have a great relationship with SIL, so this may be colouring my view....
