for my friends who had babies with reflux, it was prevacid that eventually helped (they had tried zantac with not enough improvement).

Sorry you're dealing with this, we were there too, so frustrating! Make sure to pump to keep up your milk supply, if I had, we probably wouldn't be where we are right now :P

Anyway, no, the Zantac didn't work for us and we switched to Omeprezole. He spits a large portion of it out every night. I think it worked, but at that point my milk supply had taken a hit too, so its hard to know what was really the problem. Now we're seeing an OT therapist and supplementing at the breast with an SNS. Its getting better finally...

Zantac didn't work for my little guy, but Prilosec seems to be helping. You can have the pharmacy put in a flavor and its way less disgusting. We just use a syringe and put it in the side of his mouth a little at a time.

@Mrs. Deer: Ugh, Zantac tastes horrible. My boys are awesome medicine takers but that is the worst one weave get had to deal with! Sometimes we put it in just a couple few ml of milk (or even just put a bit if milk in the bottom of the syringe) so the first taste would be milk instead of the terrible Zantac flavor. We also just put the syringe as far back and onto their cheeks as we could so it was harder to spit out.

@Mrs. Blue: thank you! Any tips on getting them to take the meds? I feel so stupid being a nurse and not being able to get my baby to swallow :/

@erinpye: thank you! I know the LC checked for a lip and tongue tie (my first had one) but I haven't really given it much thought or investigated it myself. Definitely going to!

I wrote a post on here at length a couple of years ago, but our first daughter was diagnosed with reflux and put on Zantac. She was seen by multiple doctors and LCs, and only when I came across my own tongue tie research online, found a somewhat local specialist, fought my husband and family who told me I was crazy, and went to see the specialist, did we get a tongue tie and upper lip tie diagnosis. It was that, that was causing the reflux, so the Zantac couldn't do anything but somewhat mask the problem. Once her upper lip tie and tongue ties were fixed, the reflux vanished the same day, after 6 months of it (plus colic, gas, arching when eating, flat out refusal to nurse, etc. all vanished), and she was finally, for the first time since being a sleepy newborn, willing to nurse. It's worth checking into--it's very common. A couple awesome websites with info are: http://drghaheri.squarespace.com/

No matter what, I hope your LO feels better and is able to eat.

@LovelyPlum: yeah, I was all over it and eliminated dairy and soy when I was 37 weeks pregnant. Isn't MSPI the worst? :/ she said we'd try Zantac, if we noticed a slight improvement but not a lot then we'd switch to Prevacid, then if nothing we'll hopefully get a referral.

@Mrs. Blue: thank you! I am terrible about searching for blog posts.

@Mrs. Deer: we started Zantac at 6 weeks, but things didn't really start improving until we coupled it with the MSPI diet. I was going to ask about that, because your oldest had it too, right? So sorry you're dealing with this :bummed: Have you thought about asking for a referral to a pediatric GI?

@twodoghouse: @Mrs. Blue: thanks ladies! She said we'd start with Zantac and then try Prevacid. And I'll definitely write Mae, she has MSPI too so it sounds like we've got a lot in common with these babes.

It helped our boys a little bit, but not anywhere close to enough so we switched to Prevacid. That was AWESOME! Hopefully, the Zantac will at least give you an idea about whether it's really reflux. Hope something works out for baby girl (and her tired mama!) soon.

@Mrs. Deer: Zantac worked for one of my kids and didn't for the other. We ended up on Prevacid for DS. You may want reach out to @Mae. She dealt with major food refusal (bottle and nursing I think), silent reflux, and MSPI. She would probably have some tips on ways she got food into her daughter. I hope something eases up soon. It must be exhausting, especially with an older LO to care for as well!

LO was on Zantac from week 2 to six months. It doesn't stop them from refluxing it stops the acid production so it stops burning their throat. So in that essence her hoarse voice went away after a couple days.

So we're on day 24 of a nursing strike. :bummed: It's been probably one of the most stressful things I've ever dealt with (she also will barely drink from a bottle - I literally spend every second of my day getting milk in her). After many trips to see a lactation consultant and our pediatrician, we're finally trying Zantac to see if it's reflux. For those who have experience...

- How quickly did you notice improvement in your LO's symptoms?
- Any tips or advice about silent reflux?
- Anyone get this diagnose based on feeding issues? Did they improve?

Thanks ladies!
