My kids were diagnosed as infants but outgrew it (more or less) and were re-diagnosed when they were struggling with solids. We put them on generic Prilosec at 11 months and it made a world of difference. We avoid tomato sauces, but they seem to do ok with fresh tomatoes. It might be the onion and garlic in tomato sauce that bother my kids? Not positive. They eat citrus (clementines) but only during the day. Not for dinner or evening so that way they do ok at night. Even after we figured out their reflux they were bad sleepers for a long time (like, until the past week, haha). I think nursing in the middle of the night soothed their reflux, but also started up the reflux again since there was more liquid in their bellies. So that was sort of a double edged sword. However, once we helped them so they weren't screaming in pain at night, I felt more comfortable trying some sleep training. Just within the last week they've started going to bed awake instead of nursing all the way to sleep. Major triumph for us!

@sorrycharlie: my lo loves fruit too - I don't think we eliminated it, but gave her less of certain fruits for a little while. Once the Prevacid kicked in, she was soooooo much better! It took a week or two though. I hope this is short lived for you!

@Pirouette: okay this is something I could've written!! It's silent - she doesn't throw up but sounds like it. It's been WAY way worse lately, and she's just gotten 2 of 4 molars. Citrus didn't even occur to me.. Ugh! She looooves fruit. :(

@sorrycharlie: yes! Lo was diagnosed at 14 months, which I thought was unheard of. A few rounds of Prevacid did the trick for her (hers was silent reflux). The thing that aggravated it the most for her was getting her molars and canines - the one year molars were what finally brought on the diagnosis - we initially thought it was a side effect of teething or something.

As for specific foods, I think we avoided certain citrus foods but she never liked tomatoes or anything spicy so there wasn't a lot to eliminate.

Did anyone's LO get a reflux diagnosis after infancy? DD2 is 14.5 months and I finally got the pediatrician to try putting her on Zantac. In the last week she's been on it I've definitely noticed a difference in her pain at night but it's a work in progress still.

Part of it is that I'm unsure what to avoid feeding her? I never paid attention to specific foods causing it because it was every single night. I haven't given her red sauce, or tacos or anything lately but she loves them. I'm afraid to risk it!
