My LO is supplemented daily as I just can't pump enough. We mix breast milk and Gentlease. We started when she was about six months old (and my freezer stash was pretty much gone). At first, her bottles were 80%BM and 20% formula. I think that eased her in. My supply has been tanking lately, so now it's more like 25% BM and 75% formula (she's almost 10 months). I think it's fine to mix - I don't know that she would have taken it any other way in the beginning.

My son also refused Enfamil Gentlease. He takes Similac Sensitive without issue though. Maybe try switching brands?

The only formula N would take was Similac Isomil Soy. Anything else he just spit out. It is most defiantly a choice of the little ones.

I would if I was in your position, only as a transition for a few days until she drank it. I know the soy kinds supposedly taste bitter so maybe the regular ones are sweeter and would be less problematic.

One of my friends' babies refused formula, and she ended up adding yogurt and mashed banana to the bottles to thicken them up once the baby was older

@blackbird: Can I mix them? I read mixed opinions online...(I plan to chat with her doctor at her 6 month appt too)

I definitely didn't want to do it this weekend and risk having to toss the BM! lol

@Penny Lane: I think I have samples of that one too! Guess I'll try it when the time comes. Can't say I blame her...BM tastes FAR better than formula!

Mix it with breast milk and she will get used to it. Maybe give her a bottle a day so she drinks it. I'm sure if she gets hungry enough, she'll drink it.

Background: I had countless struggles with breastfeeding R and decided exclusively pumping was best (5 months so far!). I currently pump a little less or just enough for R each day but was able to build a very large freezer stash in the first few months so it hasn't been a problem.

This past weekend my husband and I went out of town with R. Unfortunately, I forgot her bottles and essentially was at a 5-6oz deficit. I decided that I wasn't going to stress (or turn around, already 90 mins into the drive!) and I would pick up formula to supplement with if we needed to. (Ok..well I did cry a little. Stupid mom guilt!)

I bought Enfimil Gentlease (simply because that's what I was given samples of at the hospital and I was SO overwhelmed in the store aisle!)...and R absolutely refused to eat it. We tried everything. Room temp, warm, cold....night bottle, morning bottle. Regardless of how hungry she was, she spit it back out and wouldn't eat it.

Obviously we made it through the weekend only with me pumping basically every 2 hours (so much for spending time with our friends!) and R waking up in the MOTN because she was a few oz short for the day.

SOOOOO...how can I get this girl to take formula? I don't plan on needing to use it again anytime soon (lesson learned). But I'm not sure that I plan to EP until a year and my freezer stash won't last forever.

Please help!
