my LO did this for months, she's 15 months now and never took the bottle, our daycare ended up feeding LO milk from a spoon or directly from a cup, they just held the cup and lifted it a little at a time for LO to drink from it.

@glitterboots: We had our best day so far today. She took 9oz of milk for my SO from the cheapie Playtex bottles with the brown medium flow nipples. He made the milk much warmer than we had been and warmed up the nipple too. I don't want to jinx it but all this seems to have made a difference today!

My daughter is 18 months now and I went back to work part time when she was 5 months. Just like your LO she started refusing the bottle at that time, and never went back to accepting the bottle. She would go all day without drinking. I feel like I tried everything and what eventually worked was her using a sippy cup with a straw, adding a lot of breast milk to cereal, mashed avocado, and cooked egg yolk, when she turned 6 months old. I also continued to feed her at night until she was 13 months old. It was a rough road, and I hope it is smoother for you. Good Luck!

Do you think spoon feeding her milk would work? When I was a baby I just wouldn't take a bottle and my dad had to do that starting at three months while my mom went to college. They said it took forever but nothing else worked. Now my little girl is also refusing bottles and I might be in the same boat when it's time to go back to work.

I'm sorry you are going through this. I had the same thing happen recently. We used Platex nipples, medium flow, super warm milk, warm the nipple, and put the milk all around the nipple so it smells like me. The first three days nothing worked so my husband fed her through the medicine dropper 😟

@mrswin: It's worth a shot, we were so many weeks in that we decided to give ANYTHING a try. We ended up sticking with formula and I tried to still nurse, but she seemed to be getting confused so we decided to just do FF because I didn't want to mess anything up (we were 6 weeks in & failure to gain weight though so you have time to try and mix to get her to drink milk!)

@sapphire: @T.H.O.U.: Sorry ladies, we actually don't give her water but I put a couple mls (enough to fill the tip of the nipple) in one the other day just to try and determine if it was a bottle/nipple issue or a milk issue

Can I ask why you are giving her water?
If you really think that's necessary at this age (it's on the young side), I'd recommend a sippy cup for that. Probably best for her to only associate milk in the bottle. Best of luck though, it's always so upsetting when LO won't eat :(

@LBee: I have tried the frozen milk and it tastes fine to me, I am assuming it would be pretty obvious if it was soapy tasting right.... The milk she took yesterday was frozen and she had a bottle of fresh milk last week while I was at the dentist.

@mrswin: I went through this just a few months ago, we went 6 weeks without a bottle. We tried EVERY brand, EVERY nipple, EVERY temperature, ect. And what did it....was formula. We tried formula instead of breast milk in a Avent classic bottle and she gobbled it up. She did not want her milk from anything but the source.

edit: I know it's not ideal, but we were desperate and at her 4 month check she dropped down to the 2% for weight...it was bad.

You didn't go back to work early! I went back at 12 weeks! My DD had a bottle strike for sure. We never changed bottles; I knew she was just stubborn regardless lol. Some common tips -

* Feed without holding them
* Make milk super warm
* Try Playtex.. Their soft nipple is supposedly the closest to breast and many bottle strike babies have luck with them

Today is day #3 of me being back to work and DD being home with my SO. She is exclusively breastfed but will take a pacifier and has had the occasional bottle before. She is 5 months old.

On Monday she refused to take any breast milk from a bottle and went 11 hours without eating.
Yesterday my SO was able to get her to drink a total of 6.5oz (2 bottles) in the 11 hours I was gone. She took the bottles only while being worn in the carrier after a walk around the block.
Today she has refused the bottle again, even in the carrier :crying: I am on my way home now...

Has anyone been through this before? Any suggestions for other things we can try to get her to take the bottle while I am at work?

I feel like a terrible mom for choosing to go back to work early and having her go all day without eating and my poor SO is feeling terrible too
