@shopaholic: Yeah - definitely not constipated. M was on miralax even when she was in diapers so it's just a continuing problem

@lemondrop: Oh! Mine loves the little potty and her little travel potty. We have the OXO one for travel and she loves it. It fits on top of a standard toilet OR you can use it alone and takes very little space.

@MrsF: Thanks for commiserating. Poor babe and babysitter. No fun! I haven't gone down the Miralax route yet - figured she's not truly constipated if she can poop in her sleep after 10 min. lol

@lamariniere: Thanks friend! That does make sense! lol, yup, right after she pooped finally last night, she commanded that mommy go poopoo too. Ummm... doesn't quite work like that lady! lol

I was just talking about this with a friend today. For my son, the issue was that he was used to pooping standing up (in a diaper), so when it came time to sit, he really wasn't comfortable, it was like a whole new thing for him. He figured it out on his own after about 2 weeks, but I think you've just got to go with it and not make too much of a big deal about it. Modeling the behavior also helped us. :silly:

@shopaholic: no advice but I'm right there with you! M has always had constipation issues and takes miralax. She's doing great with potty training except for poop. I've been giving extra miralax because she's holding it in and our pedi was worried that she would make herself super constipated, start having painful poops on the potty and be traumatized by the whole thing. It caught up with her yesterday while I was at work. She had major diarrhea, and tons of poop accidents with her babysitter. I feel horrible :crying: (and pretty bad for the sitter too).

That's a great point too- we found a adult/training seat at Home Depot that flips down for kids. C is much more secure on that (but one of my big concerns for adjusting to potties while out and about!) but I also gave him a stool to put his feet on so he has a bit more room to maneuver :)

@lemondrop: Yay for your progress! We've been doing the dump poop in toilet thing for months. In fact, it was one of the major things that got her interested in potty-training. She always wanted to see the poop. She loves to wave bye to everything in the toilet (cue embarrassment when you're in a public restroom!) I think it has to actually just do with the pushing or sitting portion of doing #2. She is literally scared or something to let it go. lol
Good luck this weekend!

I did lots of waiting around with bottoms off and a miserable, cranky kid begging for his diaper. Finally I gave up and put the diapers back on. It took us catching him in the act of pooping multiple times and sitting him on the potty to get him comfortable with the idea. Even if I just missed it, I would drop the poop in the potty from the diaper, give him a tootsie pop or a cup of juice (big rewards to him) to get him to sit still on the toilet for a little bit to practice. We wiped and said, "bye poop!", he flushed (also a big reward), close the lid (hahahaha!), wash hands, and he gets a sticker on a downloadable potty charts from Pinterest. Looooooots of cheering and praise, and it just eventually happened (just this past weekend, actually!)

It took several weeks to get to that point. This week out of nowhere he's started going on his own, so we are joking and calling him "housebroken." Potty stuff outside of the house we'll be tackling this weekend. :bummed:

@Freckles: Thank you. Of course right after I posted this, she finally went poop in the potty! I gave her a new tub toy to "squeeze" and that seemed to help, and she was back to her happy, sweet self. Trust me, we don't pressure her to poop or potty train. Really just more encouragement. I'd be much happier to clean a poopy diaper than hear 8 hours of whining and going back and forth to the bathroom, etc. Now she's all about peeing in the potty she won't go in a diaper either. *sigh* I'm praying tonight is the night it clicks that she can go regularly, but not holding my breath.

Speaking from experience, I would try and step back from poop training. DD used to hold in her poops and when she finally did poop, they were so big...the longer they hold it in, the more the rectum and lower colon will stretch. It leads to so many issues!

I would tell her that she no longer has to poop in the potty and if she has to poo, you will give her a pull-up/diaper and she can just go in it. At least then she is telling you that she has to poo. Once she gets comfortable, you can have her try pooping in her diaper in the bathroom, and then eventually move to pooping in the potty.

Ugh, poop battles are the worst. I hope you eventually find something that works.

We are on Week 5 of pretty much being potty-trained for pee during waking hours. I can take her out of the house with regular undies, she wakes up from naps to pee, tells me, holds it, etc.

Now, when it comes to poop - OMG!!! She holds it. Refuses to go in the potty, refuses to go in a diaper or pull-up even. She used to go once a day, but not any specific time. Now, she holds it and every other day is HOURS of torture for me. Whining, clinginess, constant trips to the potty, requests for wipes/new undies/pull-ups, etc. She just refuses to go. I think she's gone #2 in the potty maybe 3 times in the past 5 weeks. Usually, she FINALLY goes in the diaper when she's sleeping and wakes up because of it.

I've tried everything I can think of. HUGE rewards, bribery, over-the-top praise, not making a big deal if she does go in the diaper, etc... but nothing is working. I even give her prunes (pouch) when she's constipated. I feel like a prisoner to a little tyrant every other afternoon/night when she's holding it in. Anyone go through this and how to help her just "let it go"?
