@looch: ohhh its not a pad....its a full sized monitor! I understand that others may be wary but my husband does these setups as part of his job so i'm interested to see how it will look/work. Its my understand it moves completely out of reach when not in use.

I'd think about putting a small potty or at least some toileting accessories on your registry.

We skipped the standalone potty and used a stool that goes around the base of the toilet and we added an integrated potty seat to our existing toilet. I love the set up so much, I got one for my mom's house, where my son spends a lot of time.

I want to hear more about that touchpad thing! We have a kindle in our house as our command station for our lighting and what not, but this sounds much cooler!

I am so excited for you!

@scg00387: hmmmm the only issue with the boosters is that our dining tables are stools.. Babywearing is very common in korea and i think we will buy the carrier he is used to when we're there.

Zoo and museum memberships are a great idea! In the videos we've seen he appears to have a security blanket but maybe he needs another one ;)

Maybe some baby/toddler proofing stuff if you didn't already have to do that as part of the home study. Does the ikea high hair become a booster? Do you have a little stool he could use? You could register for one of the toilet seats with the built in potty seat (I loooove these!). This is what I'm talking about

Some fun outside toys that don't need storage, like trucks, buckets (for rocks, dirt) shovels. My 2 year old loves stacking cups and putting.them.in the water and dumping them out. How about a glider for his room? Ours still gets used nightly for story time.
Bibs for when he is eating. The long sleeved ones from IKEA are awesome! Extra sheets for his bed. Diaper changing pad covers of he is in diapers.

@hotchildinthecity: I would skip to 3t in tshirts! Then he can wear them over long sleeves too. I cannot imagine a touchscreen in my kidlets room haha I'm assuming it has a lock feature? Especially if he sleeps on a floor bed eventually and can get at it!

My kiddo refused the high chair around 13m and went to a wood booster. He still drinks from foogo straw cups. We love our Tula toddler carrier- might be nice for bonding?!i have no idea if older babywearing is common there.

Mega blocks trump duplos currently.. He also loves magnetic trains and little cars, his learning tower, and any type of ball.

You could also do any type of zoo or museum membership! We use the heck out of ours.

Other sleep things we still swear by are white noise machine, Aden Anais security blankets, and blackout shades.

So exciting! You sound really prepared! Not sure if you included it in bedding, but I would definitely have at least 2 waterproof mattress protectors (ikea has them).

As for books, check out the books by Oliver Jeffers. We are big fans of his and the stories are simple and beautiful, so they will be easy to understand as he learns English, and they also feature boys as main characters.

@locavore_mama: yeah the sleeping situation is going to be one of the harder things. Once we put it all together we'll see how it can switch back and forth . I agree he may be better with just the toddler bed. Right now he's either on the floor or a futon so it should be interesting!

@hotchildinthecity: congee/rice porridge is SO easy! I recommend buying a small crock pot. My mom cooks hers in a small crock pot for my nephew.
Mrs. Bee also has some great, fairly easy recipes on the blog.

As for the sleep situation, again unsolicited, but leaving it as a toddler bed *might* be an an easier transition for him?

@matador84: i have registered for the most expensive bath toys in history lol (this pororo set from korea). And my mom just got me the alphabet that sticks to the wall.

I'll have to dig around for some outdoor toys that can easily be transported to the park. We have a rooftop where he can play, and a park across the street, but no toys can "live" outside

@Mamaof2: oooops! My grandmother bought me the car seat (diono radian) and we're getting the high chair from ikea!

@T.H.O.U.: we dont really have much of an outdoors since we're in an urban area :/

@locavore_mama: he is absolutely co-sleeping with his foster mother but that is just not going to work with our family. We have a transition plan that i hope will work, with one of us sleeping in his room while he gets used to sleeping alone. The crib transitions to a toddler bed.

As for diet, i'm actually learning to cook korean as we speak. And a co-worker has promised to teach me to make the rice porridge that is a staple of his diet. I do not know what BLW is but i do know that as of april, formula/powdered milk was a large staple of his diet.

I agree with the others about a booster seat for eating, bath toys/stuff, and a car seat. Although I think you've said previously that you don't drive a lot or maybe you already got one?

Is your son potty trained? Might want to add some diaper stuff, though that stuff is less "fun", but they you would get the correct size diapers instead of ones that won't fit.

I think that's pretty good to to start with because you don't know what he will like or not like. And I'm sure space is a concern.

My only thoughts do you know if he's even still in a crib? Co sleeping is very common in Asian cultures and my nephew hasn't slept in a crib since he was one.

Also unrelated to a registry but diet. BLW is not as common in Asian cultures. Lots of kids I know around 2 aren't full BLW yet. Ie my nephew who's 27m like my daughter is still mainly on congee and noodles. And I know smooth easy transition is a important factor in adoption. Have you considered hiring a Korean nanny temporarily that can help prepare meals he's used to in the beginning?

Anyway, just some thoughts..

Good luck !

Eta: child proofing!!! Locks for cabinets, etc.

Another thing around that age that was a hit for us was yard/outdoor toys like a water table, chalk, sprinkler, balls, etc.

Since we are moving in two weeks and hoping to travel to Korea as early as Thanksgiving, my shower is scheduled and registries are getting set up. Sorry for the long read, but do I look pretty well set?

Clothes

We are extremely hesitant to register for any clothes because we are pretty in the dark about his size. We're thinking he's about 18-24 months size right now. I did want some pricey indie store shirts and my friends love buying stuff like that. So I registered for a handful from Etsy in a 2T and called it a day. I know people will still buy more clothes because OMG THEY ARE SO CUTE, but I won't feel responsible for that ;)

Toys/Books

We registered for some basic age-appropriate toys on Target and Amazon as well as books. Amazon also has a great selection of Korean cartoon toys. We especially love Tayo Little Bus and Pororo. We added Tayo and his little friends, Pororo bath toys, Pororo chopsticks, and a Pororo backpack. We also added all of the WOD Toys, because I'm a crossfitter, and a little golf set, because my husband is an avid golfer.

We looked for suggested/popular books for his age group, and added a bunch of those. We also chose the adoption standbys "I Wished for You" and "God Gave Us You."

We grabbed a balance bike and a helmet, play-doh sets, lots of duplos and little people, and a bunch of Melissa and Doug stuff.

Room Decor

Since we couldn't register for a lot of the typical "baby" stuff, we used room decor to fill the gaps. We're doing a superhero themed room, and there is TONS of stuff available on Etsy and a handful of stuff on Target. We added sheets, pillow, comforter, wall hangings, lamp, a storage unit, dresser, night lights, etc.

We bought the crib/toddler bed ourselves because I just really liked this one from Ikea and I didn't want to look anywhere else.

Gear

My husband is a tech geek, and as soon as we started planning Nugget's room, he had one request. It's for this ridiculous all in one computer/touch screen panel nonsense that I'm sure I will never figure out how to work. We also included a webcam for Skyping from that device, as well as a paintbrush stylus, and a bracket to mount it to the wall. It swings up and out of the way when he's not using it.

For a baby monitor, we just went with a plain old wireless camera that will feed into our phones/iPad. That way we can bring it anywhere with little hassle. We registered for the City Mini GT and some accessories for a stroller. On Etsy, I registered for a diaper bag. We got some sippy cups/plates/silverware also from Target/Etsy/Amazon.

I think that covers it all! Fellow toddler moms, did I forget anything?
