I personally am going just with amazon.com. If someone prefers to buy something in the store, they can then go on the registry on amazon and mark that they bought it. I didn't think it was a big deal.

I'm a registry stalker so I knew what was on my registry the day of the shower, and I was very surprised to see things that hadn't been bought that morning at my shower. Lots of people wait until the last minute (literally, right before the shower) to buy a gift, and they can't do that if it's online.

Also, I hate paying for shipping so I prefer to go to the store.

@Hilsy85- I did 3 registries even though it felt crazy :) Amazon, Target and Babiesrus... My family lives in the middle of nowhere, so Target was the best option for them, the closest Babiesrus is about an hour away... And no one knows how to shop online, haha!
I think 3 will work out great and give folks plenty of options :)

@tequiero21: yeah I ended up doing both of them! I actually really don't like Babies R Us, but for at least a few people, I know it's the only baby store near by.

@FutureMrsMcK: We're also just going to do 3 places...babies r us, buy buy baby, and giggle for our furniture and a few other specialty items.

@mrsjyw: Yup we have 3 too! :)

I had no idea that registering would be this much work, lol! Now I'm glad I only did one store for my bridal registry!

I think it depends on your friends/family. A lot of our family don't shop online so I stuck to BRU and Target to give both brick and mortar and online options. I also did a small registry at PBK for friends who would likely shop at the brick and mortar shop near by as well.

I have a lot of friends that registered at 3 places...Amazon, a speciality store or local store, and a brick and mortar store (usually BRU or Target). I don't think it's weird at all, and though I prefer to shop online I know a lot of people, especially older folks, who like to go into a store. You don't need to put a ton on there, just enough to give some options.

i think you should definitely register at babies r us or buy buy baby. they have 20% off coupons that people like to use - can be cheaper than amazon. pretty much everyone who bought me a gift from my registry did it from bbb.

amazon does have 10% completion discount.

We had the same dilemma. We wanted to do Buy Buy Baby and Amazon but there isn't a BBB where both of our families are from and with all of the "older" aunts they're not as quick to buy online, so we just registered at BRU and Amazon (for those things BRU doesn't carry and for those who like to online shop)

I registered at Amazon and Babies R Us because I know people can lag on gifts and buy the day before or day of! The dates on our gift receipts confirmed this! :-)

@NYCaliMama: Yeah, I think I will end up having 3 registries! It seems a bit ridiculous and is actually much harder to figure out which goes on which than I thought it would be, but I guess these are good problems to have :)

It depends on your friends and family and how comfortable they are with ordering things online. But you know, my extended fam tends to be old school, but my sis and I still did mostly online registries and we got plenty of gifts off of them. Most gifts we got from other places came with a gift receipt too, so that was nice.

I registered at Giggle for my first baby. They didn't have as many locations outside of NYC back then as they do now... I say just go for it, even if just for the completion discount. And yes, Amazon has a completion discount too.

For another brick and mortar, how about Target? I am not a fan of the Babies R Us stores in NYC... I much prefer Target and Buy Buy Baby for their customer service and overall selection. But anyhow, there's nothing wrong with having three registries at all :)

I registered at PBK (where my bedding was), Buy Buy Baby (which they don't have a store where I live), and Babies R Us (where they do have a store where I live, but it's nothing great...just attached to a TRU).

I knew I would have 3 showers-1 in my hometown where there was a BBB and PBK, and the other town where I live now where there is only a BRU. Luckily, I played my cards right and most people at my first shower (the one in my hometown), people got me stuff from PBK and BBB. The one I had here so far was mainly BRU stuff.

So...I think people will shop online because I did get several items mailed to my house, but you kind of have to give people options knowing who will get gifts for you and what is easiest/most accessible for them.

@hilsy85: My mom was so weird with our wedding gifts. We got married in Virginia and live in Montana, and didn't think to tell people not to bring gifts to the wedding, but to ship them! So we ended up with piles of gifts in VA, and were flying back to MT. I asked my mom if she could exchange them for gift cards (we were leaving soon after and couldn't do it ourselves) and we would just buy the same stuff in MT since it was all mostly BB&B stuff.

She was like, "No, because that's the item someone picked out for you!" I was like, "well, not really - it was stuff we registered for and a lot of it was shipped here. So it's not like they were like "ooh, that's the one!" She still refused to do it, and we still have wedding presents in VA that we might never get!

So my point is, some people really do care about picking things out by hand. That being said, we will probably do an online registry. People can/will always get extra stuff at a store if they want!

@highwire: so it sounds like me doing an amazon registry and a giggle registry probably wouldn't work for someone who feels as you do then...ok, good to know :)

I always like to browse in a brick and mortar store when I'm shopping for gifts for a shower (and almost always get something from the registry, with maybe a couple of extra related items thrown in). I hate showing up for a shower empty handed, so I'd be forced to pick out something from a store and it might be something the person doesn't want/need.

I would like to do two registries--one at amazon.com, because they have everything, and one at giggle, because they have the furniture that we want. However, that would mean that most people who don't live in our immediate area wouldn't have an actual store to go to in order to buy gifts, since giggle is pretty much only in NYC I think. Do you think it would be an issue that people would most likely have to buy shower gifts on-line from amazon? Should I be doing a third registry at Babies R Us or something, just to give people a store they can go to? I don't know how much people care about actually picking out baby shower gifts in person versus online...

Also, does Amazon have completion discounts like other stores do?
