In the city, we didn't know any other children with DD3's name; since moving to the burbs we've met tons. There are two girls with the name in DD1's kindergarten class, and one in her afterschool enrichment program (different spelling). DD2's best friend (whose mother is a good friend of mine) shares DD3's name, and also has a girl in her dance class with the name. It's not horrible, but it can be a little weird and confusing at times. I'd think twice about using one of the most popular names in the year if naming another child. When we are in my DH’s country we hear his name everywhere, and this year and last year there were other boys with the same name in his class. It’s a very classic name though, and I love it despite its popularity. My DD has an alternate spelling of a top 10 girl’s name in the US. But we didn’t run into many in the country where we were living when she was born. In her first daycare class there was another redhead baby girl whose first name and last name were both one letter off from my LO. It helped me get over my drive for uniqueness pretty quickly. And we hear it a LOT while we are out (she’s not in school yet so don’t know about classmates). I hemmed and hawed about it a lot because of the popularity, but it came down to we didn’t have another name we loved as much. So I won’t say I regret it but I will say it is as popular as I feared. </p> <p>That said there is no guarantee there will be another girl with her name in school, or if we went less popular, that she would still be the only one. My older daughters name is much less common and I found out there is another girl with the same name in her grade next year. I like the names because they are classic, easy to spell, and appealing. DD is now 6. We have run into other people who share her name but she has not been in the same class with them or anything else. Same with DS.
