I think there are quite a lot of differences. Mostly for safety- like Highwire mentioned, but also the poses help you focus more on connecting with the baby and making sure you're increasing circulation to the midsection. I find that it's helpful to have an instructor reminding me not to put pressure on the abdomen in certain poses, etc. I wouldn't feel comfortable making the modifications totally on my own.

There are a variety of yoga poses that aren't safe during pregnancy (twists, laying on you back after X weeks, etc) I've done many different styles of yoga, including prenatal. I like the prenantal clases because it is a full clas swhere I don't have to make any modifications.

Has anyone taken Prenatal Yoga classes? I already belong to 24hr Fitness and wonder how different the Prenatal Yoga classes really are? I think I'm going to buy a package for 5 classes at a yoga studio to try out the Prenatal Yoga (and try to make some mommy friends) but it seems just like an additional expense.

Could you do a lot in the normal yoga classes with just a few modifications do you think?
