Ok so totally out there, but what type of spoon are you using?

Long story short, we just discovered DS will not eat off a silicone/plastic spoon and will eat like a champ off stainless steel spoons. I'm not sure if it is because the stainless steel spoons we have (Oneida, smaller version of real flatware) are more narrow and thinner compared to the silicone baby spoons or what, but he ate an entire serving of carrots today, and normally he would refuse after the first spoon.

Same here. LO hates solids and it was so stressful feeding her.

LO was only 10% percentile for weight and 50% for height. Doctor told me to feed her formula -- only except she doesn't take a bottle....

However, I'm very HAPPY to report for the past couple of days LO's mouth has been OPENED for everything that I've been feeding her!

I did! My LO is now 9 months old and he still doesn't love food. Lately he's actually been showing interest in it whenever he sees us eating and crawls over with his mouth open to try things. They do what they want I guess! The only bad thing with him is that we just found out that he's slightly anemic, so we really have to be on him a little more to help with that. Other than that, he's still gaining weight nice and steadily.

I totally understand going off cues now. We went through three weeks of our LO not wanting solids, but now she's a bit more interested. Keep offering but not pushing and surprisingly she'll come around!

At 10 months old my LO still isn't crazy about solids. She eats yogurt, bananas, puree'd pears, porridge and table food. At most she eats 10 bites a meal.
I wouldn't worry about it. Breastmilk/formula provides all the nutrients your LO needs her first year of life.

thanks guys, I think we'll just go off her cues and let her pick at our food as she is interested. Id just never heard of this happening before I became a mom so its good to hear its common =o)

@LivsMama: I don't know why people have told you that seems weird. She is only 6 months 1 week? Some people don't even give their babies solids until 1 year, right? I think you should just keep at it, introduce new foods, and keep experimenting. Maybe once your LO finds a few favorite foods she will be more into it. Since she was doing well before and can even eat puffs, it seems like her chewing and swallowing is just fine.

@Mrsbells: we tried that too, but she started hitting those away as well. She will now occasionally take a little chunk, but after 1 or 2 she rejects again

Have you tried chunkier purees? We did chunky purees from early on since she didn't seem to like anything too watery.

maybe she doesnt like purees? I would just give her solids that she can bite or chew on if she is accepting those for now and then try again in a week or two with the purees

My LO has also bee eating solids for a week and doesn't love it. She spits most of it out and starts refusing it after about 5 spoonfulls (which she barely eats). Our doctor said they don't need food until they're one, it's more about the adults having fun feeding them. Also, my LO eats formula so the bland thing can't be the reason.

I wouldn't worry if I were you. My plan is just to keep feeding her if she wants it, if not oh well.

Our LO had periods of interest and no interest. B/w 6 and 7-1/2 months she got solids several times a week but not every day. We just kind followed her cues and offer tastes regularly. She usually gives cues as to when she wants solids now and when she's hungry for them she hasn't been picky. @ 8 months she usually eats solids 2x a day ~2-3 ounces each time and that's starting to increase. Sometimes she eats A LOT more than that and we still have the occasional day where she only wants to BF. She's growing like crazy and is a strong little cruiser so we're just following following her hunger cues for now..

Hey guys! So we started Liv on purees as of her 6 month doctor appt per the ped's recommendation. At first, she LOVED it. Couldnt get enough (except banana, that gave her a rash). Then she started being less and less interested, until 3 days after we started, she outright started pushing it away and shaking her head no. Even when she was rejecting the purees, she would eat puffs (yogurt and the rice ones, she is great at chewing,) and small chunks of food, but now is refusing those too.

Personally, I dont think its a big deal. Id rather follow her cues and try again when shes interested than go off the calendatr and force it. I also think that we'll go straight to BLW when we do start again. It seemed like she liked chewing more than the purees.

Ive had people tell me that it seems weird because all babies like solids (right...), but shes only 6 months and 1 week old. I also had someone tell me to give her formula bc it tastes bland, that way she'll want food. Shes been EBF up to this point so Im totally ignoring that advice. If shes not ready, shes not ready.

Also to note - her ped isnt concerned as she is still gaining weight just fine.

Has anyone else encountered this?
