Ok, placing an order for vanicream now! ;) He has a dr appt tomorrow so I'll ask about a prescription cream too. I hope he'll eventually outgrow it. I'm also breastfeeding so not sure if he's allergic to anything I'm eating...

Thanks everyone for the suggestions!

Vanicream, Rx cream from doctor, and maybe try wet wraps for a couple nights (google for more info!)

Cerave did nothing for our boys. The one that worked the best was the Aveeno Baby Eczema lotion. I would definitely try different brands if the first thing doesn't work!

We use either Vanicream or Cerave twice daily (usually Vanicream in the morning since its a little thinner) to help prevent, when he has a flare we use Aquaphor (I was told creams can sting more than ointments on irritated skin) and have a prescription ointment to use when its really bad.

My pediatrician gave us this cream called Elidel, and we just constantly lathered her up with vanicream and aquaphor. It also helps their skin retain moisture if you lotion them up when their skin is damp after baths.

I'd go to the doctor for a prescription cream! That's the most effective in our case.

sounds like you guys are using good products already. for LO's minor eczema, aveeno eczema cream did the trick. however when it got worse, i used vanicream all over, and for spot treatments i have tried lansinoh lanolin, md moms silk eczema cream (felt nice but i don't think it was thick enough, also $$), metaderm (this was okay but seemed better as an overall cream, also it was $$ so i didn't buy again), and triple cream (made by the triple paste folks). i can't say that anything was a sure thing. LO's eczema calmed down after a few months, but i don't know if it was the topical treatments or the weather or god knows what else.

for what it's worth, i do like the triple cream best as a spot treatment. it is super thick. doesn't rub in great, but that's okay with me for spots.

I really love oatmeal baths for skin issues. Just take any kind of plain oatmeal and put it in a sock or a stocking and let it sit in the bath water. It'll make the water kind of brownish and it'll feel really silky.

Cerave worked wonders for us to keep the eczema at bay. We had a prescription steroid cream to use when it got really bad.

We got a prescription steroid cream to clear it up. It was BAAAAD. Then we used aquaphor at night (i hated it, honestly) and cetaphil once it was clear. She grew out of it.
