DH grew up in this area and now works as a dean at his old middle school! I lived in the Highlands area which is the NW side and that area has grown and there are tons of stuff to do and it's very close to downtown. Daycare is a little tough but there are a lot of options- the Primrose schools, Goddard, Montessori, etc. Our LO is in a small one right by the Capital Hill area- it was the most reasonable that we could find. We live in Whittier, which is close to City Park. Both are family friendly and diverse (things that are important to us). Wash Park is another great neighborhood, as is Cherry Creek, Park Hill, and Cole. They all have varying degrees of affordability/walkability/family-friendliness. </p> <p>As for day cares, I've found that you get what you pay for. My kid isn't in day care, but I used to nanny for a couple kids here (lived here before, when I didn't have kids), and when they started going to day care, it was pretty pricey. I think it's in large part due to the fact that all EC (early childcare) workers must have (or be working toward) an EC degree. Which is great news for the quality of care your kid will receive, though!</p> <p>My best suggestion is to join some local parenting groups on FB (there are SO many, and you really have to join a bunch then figure out where you best fit, based on parenting style, personality, etc). We are hopeful that we will be moving to the Denver area either November of this year of after the first of the new year. </p> <p>We have friends in the area that will be helping us scope neighborhoods and check out rentals but they are not yet in the family stage of life so their needs and wants are a bit different than ours. </p> <p>We have an 11 month old who we will need to find daycare for and this is what scares me the most! We LOVE our current daycare center and have no idea how to start looking in a new place. </p> <p>I'm hoping some Denver area bees can give advice as to safe, family friendly neighborhoods or suburbs close to downtown Denver that we should consider. It's the first time either DH or I have ever made a big move so while very exciting it's also a little scary.
