@gingerbebe: @Radish: So sneaky, I like it! And even if we got stuck with a small car, it wouldn't be the end of the world and we'd make it work just fine...

Usually, when we rent a car we pick the cheapest (smallest) option and we are always just given something bigger because they never have the small ones available.

Most car rental places - especially Enterprise (like literally every time I rent from Enterprise) - will offer you a larger vehicle when you get there for like $1-3 more per day like its a fantastic deal. Mostly its because EVERYONE goes for compact or economy to get the cheapest rate or best mileage so a lot of times they don't even have a compact car when you get there! So I would book for the cheapest, smallest car and then either take the "upgrade" they offer you or just ask if they have a slightly larger car when you arrive. I have never had to pay $30 more for a larger car upon arrival.

Do they tell you how big the trunk is, as in number of suitcases you can fit? That's usually how I figure out the difference between rental car sizes.

Eta: oh wait, I zoomed on the photos and see they all list the same number of bags. Hmmm. I'm no help.

I would probably go with the larger car for the same reason as @adira:. You'll have more space up front for yourselves since the car seats will be RF.

@swurlygurl: Depending on how tall you and your DH are, having one car seat rear-facing may not be too bad. But if you're both tall, you may be uncomfortable having to push the front seat forward to accommodate the rear-facing car seat in back.

@bluestriped bee: I would DEFinitely prefer a small SUV, but everything I see is 2X as expensive as a car :(

@Alivoo01: Oh yes, leg space! DH is rather tall...

@Adira: Oh man, good point about the RFing car seats. I'm hoping to have L RFing still, and we likely won't be able to fit either seat in the middle

Sounds like I should size up, especially for only $30 for the 12 days. We don't need the trunk space or leg room in the back seat, but we will need room for RFing car seats :bummed:

I recently rented from Enterprise and got the cheapest possible option; they had like Chevy Malibu's, Ford Fusions and Nissan Sentra's available. If you can fit all luggage in the trunk for sure then I don't think you'd have any issues. But just in case, maybe just go up a size?

The backseat on the Camry is a bit tight for me (I've got long legs and feel squished). I would get the standard at a minimum. We traveled with a compact (Nissan Versa) with our baby and all of our gear and there was barely any room left over.

Depending on how much luggage you have and you're already bringing 2 car seats, I would go with the standard size at a minimum. I think the midsize might be too small, especially if you and/or your hubby are tall. Less leg space for you two.

Full size would definitely give you ample room overall.

I have no idea. In the past, we just get the cheapest one of the 3 car sizes. They all look like they hold 5 passengers. (I don't have kids so I can't speak about the car seat issue.) If it's possible, usually I can find deals where a 'standard' car is the same price (or a few bucks more) as an compact/ standard SUV. I actually prefer the SUV because it sits up higher and there might be the option of backup camera. (Also, since I own a CRV, I am a bit biased.)

If you are looking into car rentals, you should try to see if this site has better prices. http://www.carrentalsavers.com/
I got a really good price when I rented a car in Boston.

We have a Toyota Corolla and a Honda Accord (same size as a Camry). I know nothing about the "Standard" size car.

The Corolla has decent trunk space and is roomy in the front, similar to the Camry, but the back seat is tight. We find it challenging to fit Xander's car seat rear-facing in the back. We currently have it in the middle, so that it doesn't affect either front seats (we have a Graco Size 4 Me). Once we have two car seats, we're going to have to move Xander's to be behind the passenger seat and the passenger seat will have to move up and be more cramped.

Forward-facing though, I don't think this would be an issue.

We don't have this issue in my car, the Honda Accord (same size as a Camry). I can fit Xander's car seat rear-facing behind the driver's seat with no issue.

I use to have a corolla and its a great car - I would go with that especially if its cheaper!

My mom had a camry and it gives more leg room in the back and a slightly larger trunk

How much of a difference is there between these three car sizes? We're going to be visiting family for 12 days and decided to rent our own car for the first time since we'll have 2 car seats and it was already difficult to manage sharing cars with my parents with 1 car seat.

Right now we own a 2-door car (although it's a beast) and a mid-size SUV, so these car sizes mean nothing to me!

The price difference in the top and the bottom is $30... am I actually gaining much space by sizing up? I'm certainly not opposed to spending an extra $30 if it's worth it, but IS it worth it, or is the smaller car just fine? It's really just to get us from point A to point B - we're not traveling with a ton of gear or anything
